Was at a Pro Squash tournament tonight and was listening to 2 West Ham fans behind me inbetween matches talking about the current situation. My God they and every other fan i know of theirs has such an inflated opinion of their standing in football. Done well to hold my tongue at one point. Wot a couple of septic tankers

They won the World Cup though ........

Play in a ground paid for by us and given to a bloke in the porn business by Boris, what's not to like?

They play the West Ham way too...

...which I presume is turgidly inconsistent.

And they overpay for mediocrity, and their accent is ****ing awful based mainly on the fact that they pronounce an 'l' like a 'u' but deliver it like they're trying to be a stereotyipcal, menacing, geezer from 1950.

I reckon the reason they drop the letter H from each word is because they use them all at the end of the sentence.

"Ello mate, ow are ya, I avn't seen yo for a while. Ha ha ha ha.

Bang average and only have themselves to blame. Due to the way they perceive their own standing in football, they pay over-inflated prices for average players/well known 'bad apples'/injury prone players and it never, ever works out for them. You'd think they'd notice!

Handy six points they gave us this season. The away game was tricky and could've gone either way but my word we hammered ( ;) ) them at home!

I think their manager has handled himself well since going there.

They need to stop buying injury prone players!

Never understood who recruits their players.
They've had managers come and go but since i can remember, they all seem to recruit injury prone, overpaid players on lengthy contracts.

All clubs have their decent fans and their nobheads. I know several from each sector who support Wham which gives me a problem insofar as I want them to lose but I have to commiserate with the guys who I like.

They're irrelevant to me, as are all London clubs. I keep hearing their holier than though **** chat but really who outside of London really cares? They're probably as bad as the Goonies yet are easily in their shadow.
**** London clubs, and **** London.

West Ham came late to English football. They didn't appear in the league until about 1923 although were formed in 1895. They have won two FA Cups and the old Cup Winner's Cup. The latter and first of the former came in the mid sixties. While the latter FA Cup win came in 1975.

Meanwhile by the time they were formed WWFC had been instrumental in forming the football league and won two FA Cups before West Ham were in the league. Furthermore WWFC won the league three times, another two FA Cups and were the catalyst for a European Cup and now Champion's league. All before West Ham had won anything.

I enjoyed their 'World Cup winning team' and they played some delightful football then but a case of a London club being bigged up into something 'special' based on mythology of the 'cheeky East End Cockney' and the insignificant fact they are a London club.

I live in South Essex so I'm surrounded by the ****s. They all have a wonky view of East London: they think it's theirs yet they barely know the place. Upton Park was a great ground and they are a passionate bunch but the new stadium has killed them as a club.

@merseawolf you're spot on about them being deluded, to hear them talk about their club compared with Midlands clubs you'd think they were a perennial top 8 club, rather than the yoyo club they really are. And they're convinced they're still well hard when the reality is that most of those I saw around their ground this year were your typical poncy haired, short trousered, no socks ****ers you find down here (South Essex, not the South).

I brought two of my Hammers mates up to the game in January. Top guys, knowledgable about football and realistic with their views on their club and team and they were adamant that they would lose. We were all stood at the bar in the Stile for three hours before the game and I don’t recall them upsetting anyone even though their accents meant it was clear where they were from and who they supported.

They loved the Banks’s Sunbeam and the cheese & onion cobs and we’re hoping for a Saturday fixture next season when I’ve promised to take them on a proper pub crawl around the town.

I’ve been to a few WHU games with them over the years and have been made very welcome in the pubs, had some great chats about Wolves, WHU and football in general and always had a fantastic time.

Understandably none of them are happy with the ground move...

TBF most of the WHU fans I know are pretty knowledgeable about football and self deprecating when it comes to the state of their club. Admittedly whenever they’re on a bit of a run they get a bit overly optimistic, but then a glance on here from time to time would make outside fans view us as slightly delusional on occasion.

Sir Alex Ferguson hit the nail on the head about West Ham: "I hope that before I die, someone can explain the 'West Ham way'. What is it? They last won a trophy in 1980, the FA Cup. I never played against any West Ham team that played football I was afraid of. They were always surviving, or lucky as hell against us."
