When asked post match where he thought Utd would finish, Moaninho said they would stay in the ‘historic top 6’ and then go for 5 and then finish 4th. I’d love that to be the motivation to our boys... ‘historic top 6’ it’s a glass ceiling for us and a glass floor for them.

Edit. And what better team to replace than those ****ers.... it would be the stuff of my wildest dreams.

The only way those ****houses will break into the top 5 is if they release a charity single!

True. But they were helped by the fact all the top teams also seemed to be in transition at the same time. Arsenal will feel that season was theirs for the taking. Looking how strong Liverpool/Man City are right now, Wolves are a million miles away.

We will still do fantastically well to finish above Everton and West Ham. Not impossible, just difficult, IMO. Even so, top 10 would be great for first season.

I genuinely think we will truly challenge for top 6 next year though. Loving every minute.

It really would be a sensational achievement given how long they've been in the Premier League and had the time and money to build their squads.

In the modern era it's easy to underestimate how difficult it is for a promoted team to finish so high, with the disparity in income between the Premier League and the Championship. Just goes to show how good the entire structure is at Wolves these days.

And this is just the start....

Thought i'd tag this on here rather than start a new thread. Obviously a lot can change but at present, it looks like it might be us v Watford for 7th.

Before the next international break we have the following games:

    Us

    Newcastle (H)
    Bournemouth (A)
    Huddersfield (A)
    Cardiff (H)
    Chelsea (A)
Arsenal (H) - may be moved for FA cup QF.

    Watford

    Cardiff (A)
    Liverpool (A)
    Leicester (H)
    Man City (A)
Southampton (H) - may be moved for FA cup QF.

Assuming we both go through in the cup (and our game v Arsenal is moved until after international break) - by 16th March we would both have played 30 games.

I think a realistic points haul for us would be New (1), Bou (1), Hudd (3), Cardiff (3), Chelsea 0 - that's 8 points and would put us on 46 points from 30 games.

I think a realistic points haul for Watford would be Cardiff (3), Liverpool (0), Leicester (3), Man City (0), - that's 6 points and would put them on 43 points from 30 games.

We then take a 3 point lead into final 8 games (and have to play them away).

    Thoughts?

I think it depends on tonight if we can turn up and play well and win itll set the benchmark for the other teams near the bottom end and id predict 10 points with us beating huddersfield and cardiff drawing with bou.

If we r a shambles and struggle to figure out a way to win vs tbese type of teams i think it could be as low as 4 or 5

I am very interested in how tonight pans out; if our formation change has killed the losing to lower teams hoodoo then we will be very difficult to take points off, if it is the same old same old then Watford have a very good chance of nicking our spot.
We will need continued luck on the injury front as well..

Agree, tonight is a big game for our hopes for 7th. It’s real daylight below 8th as well with a win.

I genuinely believe the lowest we will finish now is 8th, which if you'd asked any on here in August about a top 10 finish we would not have believed it possible.

So much expectancy. Let’s jjst get behind the team every game and not take a win against any side for granted

No doubt we will still here the ‘players didn’t give us anything to sing about’ line when we are top 10 in prem though !!!

Not so sure that’s true NNW. There were several of us predicting a top ten finish

As long as you win all the other games, you can afford to lose all four v City and Liverpool. My point is you don’t have to be at that level to win the league.

In 96/97 Newcastle tonked United 5 0. That scoreline suggests Newcastle were better than United. Guess who won the league?

Our game away at Watford will be really interesting. We went in to the home game full of confidence and they were the first team to completely nullified us and were worthy winners. Will be interesting to see how we get on in the reverse fixture with our new formation as they have arguably the most powerful midfield outside of the Top 6 (probably more powerful than some of those teams too).
