It’s those bloody Mitre balls fault
What are they supposed to do? Stop trying?
Everyone saying “oh it’s unfair, the gaps too big, blah, blah, blah,” wasn’t saying that when Wigan knocked them out the FA cup last season.
That does sound like a lot for average league 1. (Probably a lot less than ours was though).
But considering Citeh’s is £300 million!! then perhaps 9-0 is almost respectable.
We celebrated a draw with them like we’d won the World Cup, but ours is a damn sight more than 8m.
They've gone from 7 to 9 to ……………………????!!!!
Barry Sheerman labour mp last night -
Good ****ing grief.
Wait till Millwall come to Molineux
Said by the same happy clapper crowd that believe we should ban competitive sport in schools because it upsets the losers.
Man City and Burton fans paid very good money to see their best face up to each other. Respect to both teams for taking it seriously. The outcome was unfortunately, a reflection of the massive gulf in resources and quality between them. If Burton had gotten a result it would have been a heroic effort that would be remembered for years to come. If they had achieved a result against Man City reserves, then all people would talk about is how weak a side Man City fielded, not Burton’s achievement, even if it were still amazing given the quality in City’s squad.
Why, they are payed to concentrate and play football, if it was wolves would you want us to switch off at halftime and coast to a 4 0 in a dour 2nd half
Can't get my head around this. It's professional sport, Man City don't have to worry about Burton's feelings and nor should they.
I feel for Burton's fans this morning, but they'll get over it pretty quick
They wanted to have a go going forward, give their fans something to shout about. They probably should've equalised early on and that would have been their story there. Problem is, their desire to try and score left them horribly open at the back against the best in the business. Hopefully they get their goal in the second leg
No, because at the time of posting it was 7-0, so you're taking it out of context.
I have seen some rubbish posted on here but you saying teams should ease up when in front by a few goals is one of the most idiotic.
Where did I say that?
Never read such utter tripe in all my life. Keep ball ? what's that all about.
So, just to confirm, I didn't say teams should ease up after scoring a few? You know what "a few" means, right?
Stop digging you don't improve matters.
I'm not digging anything, princess. I still stick by my view and if you have a different opinion, that's fine; you're allowed one.
City were great, they were fully professional.
And as someone who’s played and been on the end of a thrashing from a much superior side, there is nothing more insulting than a side taking their foot off the pedal.
Burton should be proud of even making the semi finals, whens the last time we did it, 1980?
City carried on playing football and however galling it may be opponents accept that .What they won’t accept is the opposition taking the mick by doing fancy flicks, sitting on the ball and laughing in their faces etc.City acted professionally and just did what they had to do.
Older fans will remember Leeds taking the mick out of Southampton in their 7-0 win in the Seventies with all of the above plus rabonas and more.
I hope they do, but it won't have done their confidence much good-still, at least they won't be facing football like that for the rest of the season!
2nd leg in 2 weeks.
They have Gillingham at home in the league this weekend, so I hope they beat them really.
Man City could really (and justifiably) put out a real weakened side for that game-give the likes of Mike Summerbee a game!
If I was a City fan I’d be gutted that they didn’t get double figures, never mind taking it easy on Burton they should have scored even more.
Taking their foot off the gas - FFS.
So how many is more than a few?
Were Man United disrespectful when then beat Ipswich 9-0 and Forest 8-1? Spurs putting 8 past Wigan?Liverpool scoring 9 and 10 against Palace and Fulham in the 80s? Man City beating Huddersfield 10-1?
I believe we put 9 past Cardiff at Ninian Park once. Should Cullis have been telling our lads to stop at 7?
I remember us being 5-0 up against Gillingham at half time and only getting 1 more in the second half. I was ****ed off.
City should face a series of progressive forfeits for every goal they score above 5, culminating in the public crucifixion of anyone who nets after they have scored 8.
I remember the Southampton game you mention Jonzy, it is another reason to hate Dirty Leeds ! Agree with you on the fact that City did not do any mickey taking. Also Nigel Clough and Pep had what seemed a friendly chat at the end. Pep also took the time to go round and speak to as many Burton players as he could.
Loved Nigel's comment to the usual inane Sky questions at the end. It went something like this.
" Nigel when did feel you were in trouble ? "
" When we beat Middlesbro and pulled Manchester City out of the hat ! "
At 6/7-0 they'd demonstrated their dominance, the world knew Burton were dross in comparison and out on their feet. City had shown them enough respect at that point, picking a strong side and playing the game in a professional way.
If I was the manager I would have asked the players to take their foot off the gas for the last 20-30 minutes. To push for a 10th was inappropriate; the young lad in goals looked gutted afterwards.
Anyway, we're nearly a full day on from a result that means diddly **** to me. It's been a pleasure!
Your opinion is pathetic on this issue.
Smashing a load past them is still infinitely less disrespectful than playing keep-ball for 45 mins.
Even if the players went about it with dignified professionalism, fans giving it that many ‘olés’ would be soul destroying.
A true sportsman, a real professional, would never give less than 100%, I don't understand why people think teams should take their foot off the gas when fans have paid good money to see them put in a committed performance?

Barry seems to be injured a lot since he moved there.
