Can absolutely guarantee you that the vast majority of Villa fans aren’t bitter or jealous, are concentrating on there own team and couldn’t give a toss about Wolves.

As for “believing and supporting” the actions of Doctor whatsisname, that’s just not true. They were, like the Leeds fans, embarrassed by it.

Personally I think the villa have got more fans than us, they get better away support in the same division. You could say we have a lot of potential support who don't go but so have they.
We're a bit of a juggernaut atm, everything's going well and the crowds are up. I like the rivalry with them and all the other west mids fans, lets not get upset over a tweet.
At least we dont sing that yippee ay song ;)

Without doing a poll, who knows if the ‘vast majority’ are or aren’t jealous.

Certainly a fair few are, just look at their forums and listen to the radio.

Maybe the odd one might have been embarrassed by Dr **** flaps comments, but certainly not all were. Not by a long way.

Maybe we should have a new forum section (like we do for Off Topic, Wolves Videos etc.) called TINPOT. Then all threads on everything that's TINPOT can be put in there. That would also save time typing TINPOT in the every thead title. So when we see : 'Villa's Pitch Invasion Last Night' as a thread title, we will immediately know that the OP considered the pitch invasion TINPOT and everyone interested can then discuss the level of TINPOTTERY that occurred.

Really have no interest in whether the vile go up or not as we have such an exciting time ahead ourselves.
Saying that if they do go up it will be good fun watching them waste their PL money on tripling Terrys wages, buying Alfie Mawson as their statement signing along with splashing out onTommy Dickfingers from Exeter City and Billy Bigbollocks from the Dog and Duck FC. The remainder will go on a full time team of five admin staff whose job will be to write letters to the FA and PL complaining we are winning more games than them whilst paying our players less than the minimum wage!

This all makes sense but it's difficult for me to hate a club when I know their support is good, I've always been treated okay by them and there are parts of said club I admire (the European Cup win and their brilliant ground for example). It's a bit like Norwich's obsession with us, based mostly on a tackle (they say it's because we're nasty fans but it's odd they've singled us out above several other sets of fans).

I hope Villa do come up and we can get a decent rivalry going with them; I'll probably despise the buggers in a few years though and regret all of this!

I'm sure the managers wouldn't want any celebration. They haven't won anything yet, celebrate after the final if you win.

I don't think we are obsessed, there was nothing between us until October then Brucie started mouthing off, then their owner had a Twitter meltdown about Mendes and then their CEO complaining to the football league. If anyone was obsessed it was them with us and if they'd had their way we'd have been deducted points so it's hardly surprising plenty of Wolves fans want them to fail, you just don't forget that kind of snakey behaviour against your club. The dust has settled now so I'm not particularly bothered if they go up or not, but let's not pretend the comments are because we are just desperate to have them as rivals, if Leeds were in the playoffs there would be the same threads.

The way I see football in terms of the big club argument is pretty simple: United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea. Maybe Spurs. They're the teams that can drive major commercial deals in and out of the UK. Everyone else has to innovate their way to plug the gap.

Other than that, it's there for the taking for whichever clubs want to step forward. The amount of fans coming through the gates is a representation of what's happening on the pitch. So the amount of fans argument doesn't work, because it cannot be measured. If Wolves get a tiny slice of China, for example, our fanbase will grow by 100x. The opportunities exist.

I don't see Villa as a big club. As painful as it is neither are Wolves at the moment. Neither are Forest, Wednesday or Leeds. They're historic to English football, but in terms of recent success, they're nothing. It's all history.

    That's how I see it.

Woolworths, Blockbuster & Toys 'R' Us were big once. I wouldn't want to work for them.

It’s not, they just have a bigger population & probably always will. Same as Leeds, Newcastle, Everton. We’re probably on the next level like Derby, Forest, Leicester.

We can get the fans for one off games or even seasons but can we consistently do it, our history says we don’t.

I agree you can get to be as big commercially, probably easier than growing a consistent larger fan base.

But my post was in relation to this thread calling Villa Tin Pot & a small club because big clubs fans don’t run onto the pitch. Clearly they’re not a tin pot small club. They’ve carried the title of top midlands club for pretty much 40 years.

Not without a new stadium getting built & £500m ploughed into the squad over the next 3 seasons. You might get a one off season like Leicester even Burnley but sustaining it like Man City or to a lesser degree Spurs would take a massive amount of change.

As I said above commercially if we get it right we can grow but to what extent I don’t know.

With respect, I disagree. Here’s my scenario ...

Villa face a one off roll of the dice in a play off final against a team who’s recent form knocks em into touch. Villa lose. One last year of parachute money with an ageing squad. Next year, they finish a disappointing eighth. Ouch ... no more parachute money and FFP bites deep. Double ouch.

Meanwhile, Fosun are true to their word and first turn Wolves into an established top half premiership club. A short time later we are challenging for European competition in our new state of the art 50,000 all seater stadium... sell outs every week.

Who knows what the future holds, but the above is possible and footballing fortunes do change. To say Villa will always be a bigger club is plain daft.

So your scenario involves us qualifying for Europe season upon season & building a 50k state of the art stadium selling out every week.

Ok when that happens we’ll have more fans than Villa & I’ll be wrong.

To be honest, the players that got swept away in it and not by choice including the Fulham game, seemed to have enjoyed it too, and although there were a few idiots there just seemed to be a lot of harmless pic taking going on.....There will be some tears in 2 weeks time. ;)))

How many seasons ever have we had a bigger attendance than Villa? They’ll always have a bigger population & catchment area.

Yes we can become a better team pulling better players & that will to an extent make us a bigger club but fan wise I can’t ever see it.

Having more fans makes you bigger doesn’t it? You sell more tickets, have a bigger stadium, sell more merchandise, create more turnover etc.

I’m not saying twitter is accurate buts it’s an easy barometer to calculate the pull of a club for various commercial activities.

I just don’t see how attendence equates to being a bigger club tho MW. At all. They have a massive catchment area which means they should always get bigger gates, I don’t see how that in itself makes them a ‘big club’.

If gates and followers made a big club, leeds would be the biggest in the world with their 350,000 away following every other week.

No. I don’t agree that it does. Honours, history, innovators of European football. We have always been innovators, we were the first to nearly go bump, now they are all at it! We were the first to drop two divisions in two seasons, now they are all at it! We were the first, when relegation looked inevitable, to sack the manager that would have been perfect to get us back up, now albion are at it!
