If he didn't I suspect he would have been out the door. There were enquiries. Squad game
You got me a bit worried now! Surely Nuno would have identified this and it was worked on this week.
I think we all underestimated what a top side Villarreal are though. They have a magician in charge of recruitment.
5th in La Liga last season, an impressive scalp. Once we sorted ourselves out in the second half we were so comfortable, probably deserved more goals.
Finished 5th in La Liga last season. Not as competitive as The Premier League, but still no mean feat.
Plus that's why we signed Clive, to add some steel to our midfield.
Is Adama fit? Plus I noticed the Fantasy Football website has Cavaleiro down as 75% chance of playing - has he got a knock?
I'm guessing we'll see:
Really intrigued to see how our flying forwards (Costa, Jota, Cav and now Traore) get on with this step up. Could work in our favour as defenders don't know what to expect. Hopefully they can step up as we all think they can.
Just a bit on Everton.
A lot of pundits were creaming themselves over the business they did yesterday, but I'm not sure it makes them too dangerous, especially in the first month when players are still settling in.
Marco Silva plays 4-3-3, nothing different. The team they played in their last pre-season game (a 3-2 defeat to Valencia) was:
Stekelenburg, Coleman, Keane, Jagielka, Baines, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Tosun, Richarlison
For tomorrow, Pickford will come back in for Stekelenburg and if all the new boys come in, you'll probably see Digne for Baines, Mina for Keane, Gomes for Schneiderlin and Bernard for Walcott. Some good upgrades there but they won't all hit the ground running and they still have Tosun leading the line and a questionable midfield.
Out of all their players, Pickford is probably the one who can do the most damage. When he has a great game, he can be unbeatable.
They have lost their last 4 pre-season games and are still finding their feet and trying to adapt to Silva's methods and way of playing. The new additions won't help this process.
We might have new players ourselves, but from what I saw last Saturday they have slotted into Nuno's system seamlessly and we also have the momentum of last season behind us.
Everton have collected a lot of players again, without making sure the foundations are right first. It hasn't worked for them previously and Marco Silva doesn't have a track record of getting it right in this country either. They could push the top 6 as a lot of pundits are predicting, but they could just as easily be bottom half at Christmas and onto their 2nd manager of the season.
I think we will win reasonably comfortably tomorrow (unless one of their new signings has a debut of Ravanelli proportions or Pickford has a worldy).
Not as competitive as the Prem yes but the technical quality in La Liga is better.
I think we've already seen against Liverpool in the cup a few seasons ago, Man City last year and pre-season friendlies against top opposition, if you have pace to burn and skill on the ball, you'll cause problems for any defence at any level.
Be surprised if Mina plays, he was still in Barcelona yesterday. Same for Gomes too probably. Bernard only arrived in the UK yesterday too.
Yeah, it's like to only be Richarlison and Digne from their summer signings who start.
There for the taking!
Absolutely. Odds are we will start the same team that played vs Villarreal but with Bennett in for Saiss. Hopefully Adama is fit enough for the bench along with Dendoncker.
It's set up to be a competitive game, may be tight margins.
It's going to be a thronker, I can feel it.
I think we'l see the same team as we did against Villareal but hopefully Bennett for Saiss.
I don't expect to see a new look Everton side, i expect a typical shambolic away performance from a Silva side, goals at both ends but think their 2 cbs will be left exposed and we'l batter them 4-1
Bennett Coady Boly
Doc Joào Neves Vinagre
Costa Raul Jota
None of the deadline day signings have travelled with the Squad, this is the Everton Squad that is Travelling down as we speak!
What? We have a shortage of good CBs. How the hell would he not have a future? He's either starting or first CB off the bench.
This is a good read.. . Match Thread - Wolves v Everton, Sat 11/8/18 17:30
Nuno’s pre-match interview...
I could be wrong but I thought I heard somewhere they had to be signed before 12 noon on Thursday in order to be available for the Saturday?
They hate us already lol
I think a few of them are still in Barcelona thankfully.
Well Nuno turned them down but Silva turned us down so evens out. Tough opening game though
Cheers! Very sad like!
Jimenez & Bonatini
The bookies have us favourites.
I reckon the snide Scouse ****s might have stowed the Brazilians in the luggage hold.
Rui (11 ain't nothing but a number)
Saiss coady boly
Jota raul helder
Agree with that mate but I'd start Ryan Bennett ahead of saiss
We are playing them at a good time due to the fact half the players they would want to play won’t play as they won’t have done any training with the team what so ever, that’s if some of them are even in the country yet.
I’d put Dendoncker & Traore on the bench due to them not being here very long but pretty much agree with everyone else on the line up.
Think it will be a tight game but I’m hoping we get off to a winning start, not sure why Everton fans think they are suddenly going to get attacking football, Silva is a defensive minded manager basically replaced big Sam with his Portuguese counterpart.
Silva is not a defensive minded coach at all. Plays an aggressively high line and press system. Silva's shortcomings have all been down to lack of attention on defense. I assume you don't watch any teams but us play?
Yeah he presses but puts clean sheets before scoring (even quoted saying so himself), never said he was a bad manager I quite like him but he’s just not going to have them playing like Pep but there fans seem to think he will and that it will be a free scoring game tomorrow when it’s more likely going to be a 1-0 sort of game
After being out all night tonight, I can just ‘feel’ the old town. We are right up for it and those scouse ragamuffins ay gonna know what hits em. FWAW.
I think it will be Hennessy
Berra stearman Johnson
Jarvis Henry Edwards kightly
Doyle fletcher ebanks Blake
Oh I forgot this current team is not a dream.
We really have come on so much in the last 6 years.
I think it will be rui
Bennett coady boly
Doc neves moutinho johnny
Costa jimmy jota
Traore involved despite reports elsewhere. On the bench I presume
Cav misses todays game due to back problem by the looks of it.
Going to juventus lol
