I heard it and had to turn over to 5 Live, I was getting so ****ed off. They were completely missing the point that a fine is a punishment. If you earn £500 a week, a £250 fine is a lot of money and could cause you great hardship. If you earn £100,000 a week, £250 is nothing and in no way a punishment.
Buffoon Brazil even came out with the classic line, should footballers pay more for water or electricity because they earn more, again missing the point that the fine is a punishment. They also just kept referring to footballers as if the new rules don't apply to other high earners.
I'm 60 myself, but those couple of dinosaurs really were an embarrassment this morning.

Talksport has always been the place for hosts to wind up and create debates out of nothing. Goldstein is the only one I can stand especally his podcasts where they ask ex pros about the most expensive thing they ever bought etc.
Off topic slightly but Radio WM has really gone downhill and taken the same route as Talksport. Bias is a lot more evident, fans are constantly told to call in to react to utter nonsense claims such as "Are wolves struggling because of their winless run" (it had been 3 games) Rego pro Villa and some of the callers who are straight out of the 1970s
I used to love it but now it just does my head in. How hard can it be to find a decent football podcast

With Brazil etc, asking them to debate drink driving penalties is like asking Peter Sutcliffe to review murder sentences.

    Pointless and insulting

The Moose said if your neighbour got caught he might lose his job.Alardyce said only if driving is part of your job but if you just work in the office you could use public transport or get a chauffeur, yeah the whole World can afford chauffeurs.
It begged the question why didn’t Loris take a cab? I hadn’t heard the interview but played it back.Alardyce also moaned about parking tickets which in most cases are justified.
A year or so ago I went to the Supermarket intending to use one of the bays designated for use for those with small children. The car ahead of me pulled into the last available bay.The guy got out of the car with his dolly bird and went into an adjoining Restaurant.I had to park at the far end and carry my Granddaughter in the pouring rain. The car park attendants were by the door and I pointed at the sign indicating you would be fined if caught using such bays incorrectly and the car that was using the bay illicitly. They said they would wait for him and deal with it.As it happened as I left the Supermarket the pair had just returned and the driver was issued with a ticket.
I had no compunction about such a selfish action but no doubt Alardyce would have moaned like hell if he was the one issued with the ticket.

Frankly, those comments by Brazil and Big Sam are appalling and surely the head of that station needs to start reeling in some of these idiots, or, better still, getting rid of them. It is all very well expressing some controversial points about sporting issues, but not about something like drink driving! Utter morons, the pair of them!

in germany the objective is that a fine must hurt no matter how rich the offender.
dortmunds marco reuss was fined a record £480,000 for driving without a license.
    it hurt.

It's depressing that anyone still holds those views regarding drink driving in this day and age. Even more depressing that they can air such views on a national radio station.

Fair play to Ian Abrahams. He winds me up (or at least he did when I still listened to the station), but glad he had the balls to show those two dinosaurs up. He's gone up in my estimations.

Listened to Talksport today and Ian Abrahams (Moose), Perry Groves and Jim White were pretty peeved (mild without swearing) with Big Sam's and Brazil's views. I was quite impressed with Groves and White who opened up about their experiences about the issue. There seemed genuine remorse and shame about what they said and did. Also said Lloris maybe got of lightly and should have had a bigger fine in proportion to wages and done community service.

Fair play to these three but Sam and Brazil were disgraceful in my view!!

I am in total agreement with the fine Lloris has received, in fact could have been bigger. He was reckless and selfish, a danger to himself and those around him.

Somewhat in his defence though, I think he may have been so drunk that his ability to make decisions was gone. He was so drunk, he was not himself. He was stupid but perhaps when sober would have possessed the ability to make the right choice.

Alcohol really screws with some people. Not me though, I'm a fun drunk :)

Ignoring the punishment, which is wholly justified.

Something odd about this case in my opinion. Loris is so out of control he clips cars whilst driving, had already been sick in the car and couldn’t stand up yet was only twice the legal drink drive limit......that’s about 4 pints. Who is sick and in this sort of condition after 4 pints?

I have to say 50k isn’t much for him. Just as someone on the dole punished for drink driving getting a negligible fine because of low income doesn’t deter them either....personally think it should be jail time or a punishment that impinges upon their time...ie massive community service hours etc with threat of jail for non compliance.

It takes quite a bit more than the actual six units of alcohol to get to twice the legal limit, as you're processing it as you drink it. Had a mate who smashed his car up after a heavy session, despite having double figures in terms of cans of Strongbow, he was nowhere near double the limit, and he was probably a very similar build to Lloris.

Totally agree the punishment isnt a huge deterrent for him. I've tried moving a car about 400 yards once after having a few (figured it was legal as it was a private road), and after it I honestly have no idea how or why people attempt to go on the roads drunk. I'm a very competent driver but was turning at the wrong angles despite going at a very low speed. Getting behind the wheel when you know you're drunk should be a lengthy ban and a punishment that really hurts

You usually end up in the cells overnight if you get done so perhaps make it mandatory that if you get done at whatever time of the day before the offence goes to Court that you spend 24 hours in the cells. That would deter a fair few.

I listened in dismay yesterday morning. The transcript in the Mail is damning enough but the earlier bullying of Jenny Barnsby was disgraceful too. When she claimed Lloris was completely drunk Alladyce ridiculed her as how she knew Lloris was completely drunk. She went on to describe from police reports how Lorris had been sick in car, was helped out of his vehicle, was unable to standup straight and was twice the legal limit. Alladyce remained unmoved claiming the system is just about how much money they can extract from footballers. I’m so glad this dinosaur was thrown out of the England job and is nowhere near our club.

It all boils down to the fact that Brazil believes he is bigger than the Station (not physically I hasten to add). His listening figures are quite obviously keeping him in a job.

Doubt it, they don't expect to get caught so potentially missing a day at work or an engagement wouldn't put too many off in my opinion. In Norway I think it's a couple of weeks jail time, now that would put people off

Wolves are number 2 on the 4@4 on Drive this afternoon. Asking the question 'How good are Wolves?' Not sure of the exact time, but probably 4.30 or 5pm.

Durham's got Micky Gray with him today and both have been positive about Wolves in the last 12 months. Usually one becomes the 'bad cop' to stir a debate.

I did an interview a couple of months ago with Franksy on violence in videogames. At the end he said 'Craig from Walsall has texted in and asked why, if it's so easy to download 18 rated games how parents can be responsible for making sure their kids don't play violent videogames'.

Yes of course 'Craig', how do you manage to navigate the distance from your bed to your floor in the morning?

Radio is like the Internet. You can't see the other, so you can drop bombs like it's 1945 Pacific.

    Sorry. Not really OT
