More chance of that than the other one.

Here's one that will polarise opinions, but realistically might be available.

    Christian Benteke.

1 in 3 career record and slightly better in the PL (69 goals in 188 games). Has only played 4 times for Palace this season after a stinker of a season last year.

Maybe worth a gamble? On loan until the end of the season?

He strikes me as a player that maybe needs a fresh start somewhere. With the dearth of actual proven goalscorers available in January, we might need to take a gamble like this.

Jeez, that is even less inspirational than the **** signing Sturridge last season. At least Sturridge showed some ability to put the ball in the net when not injured.
To be blunt it smacks of desperation and also assumes (unless they think it would handicap us - they could well see us as relegation rivals) that Palace would loan him to us. Frankly if we are going to struggle (and l really hope not) we are better off leaving Benteke where he is because he hasn't done anything to help Palace.
In fact he hasn't really scored consistently anywhere since he left the Vile...

Palace recently put Zaha on the same wages as Benteke because he was unhappy at not being the highest earner, 120k a week.

    Benteke isn't better than Jimenez.

People keep mentioning a "proven goalscorer" but what we could really do with is our wide forwards contributing. Costa has played 952 minutes this season and has 0 goals/0 assists. Jota has played 791 minutes for no return also. It's beyond me as to why the former has started every single game when he's not contributing and the same goes for Jota too up until fairly recently when he was dropped.

Jimenez has played 1074 minutes and has 3 goals/4 assists. He isn't a great finisher but he contributes far more than our other forward players.

I also wonder what our returns from goals on set pieces is like this season, our corners and crossing from free kicks has largely been very poor, compared to last season when we had plenty of goals from set pieces that helped bail us out when we weren't quite playing that well.

Agreed. Jimenez has been great. But I'd like a player to compete with him that has a proven goal threat. Sadly, Bonatini doesn't feel like that player.

2 so far. Joint 4th worst.

I agree that some competition for Jimenez would be beneficial. Signing Bonatini for £5m was a very poor decision.

In terms of set pieces, that really is a big drop off from last season, even when you factor in the step up in level. I didn't really have a problem with us replacing Douglas (Jonny is much better) but we should've aimed to get somebody in who could help replace his set piece output.

It was in a way, although I think it probably made financial sense as we would easily move him on for more. Yes, really! He is only 24 and there will be a Championship club with £7 or 8m burning a hole in their pocket.

Maybe that was meant to be Moutinho? But his floaty corners are no match for Barry's Mr Whippys!

As others have said, not great but at least you came up with a name....!
I can't realistically think of anyone but hopefully the Wolves staff have a search image....

A physically imposing, technically talented central midfield powerhouse.

Origi fits the bill if we can get him on loan with an option to buy.

Tammy Abraham has potential but I guess he is on a season long loan at Villa.
Zahore has completely lost his way and his contract runs out in 6 months. On loan worth a punt if Nuno could revive him? Benteke in a similar category.
The two strikers playing in France and Turkey mentioned are having purple patches but at 28 and 27 are they one season wonders with inflated fees attached?

IMHO it will be Jota and costa that will be replaced as they havent produced anything like last seasons form neither has Cav, so i wouldnt be surprised if one or two players to fill their positions are bought in. Bonatini out on loan if a new striker can be found.

Should have signed him in the summer.

According to HITC Spurs are watching him . Only 22, known as the bull due to his physical game. Scored 17 in his first season and started with 8 this season already although injured his knee a little.

For me he sounds ideal and I'd have him over Silva.

3 players we've been linked with will do.

Keita Balde, Divock Origi and Amadou Diawara. Would be an incredible window!

This guy is still under the radar and Spurs will be looking to get him on the cheap. We can outbid Spurs and probably still pay less for him than Silva.

I really can't see us signing players that are playing fairly regularly for their sides across europe in January. Teams like Milan, Inter, Napoli aren't going to let players like Kessie, Balde, Diawara go anywhere they've all got european football and need them.
Moses and Origi are much more realistic options

Theres your man for Wolves if your looking to play off more lines forward of Neves and Moutinho.

People writing off some of our players, but I’d like to see them in a system where we have midfielders who actively cross the half way line, before making judgement.

Problem is, to make it worth Sevilla's while and also considering the fact they've found a prolific goalscorer for their side which is like goldust to top clubs, added to the fact they've got an option to buy for £31m, you're looking at well over £50m for them to even start to consider it. As Knocker says, they're already in talks to make it permanent.

Then you've got to ask whether a player would leave a club 2nd in La Liga and on track for qualification to Europa League knockout rounds, and a team with a track record of winning the latter competition on a regular basis, for a club just promoted and 11th in the Premier League with no chance of European football for at least another 18 months, possibly more likely 30? Sadly isn't going to happen, even with Mendes connections.

In my opinion, we need 4 quality players in January to bolster the squad - a CB, RWB, CDM and a CF. Doesn't matter who they are specifically, just need to fit in to the new and old systems we play (i.e. 3-4-3 and 3-4-1-2).
