Yeah our very own @Tefal led the party
My brother started going around '67. Peter Knowles and all them lot. Lucky!
Used to go in the enclosure in late 50's and early 60's as dad had a ST in the Waterloo Stand directly behind the Directors' box, progressed to the North Bank c1963 (remember the turnstile between the NB and Enclosure?) moved to SB late 60s. Pretty sure the old Molineux Street Stand had an enclosure at the front when I first went.
Don't know for sure mate. Don't think it did though. I just remember that nice walk out of the subway down the hill, past the terraced houses, to the North Bank, wait for the players to turn up and then go into the souvenir shop. We were usually 10 strong ragamuffins from Bilston!
I'm remembering times pre-subway, then progressing to the Fox, right as you entered, as the subway was built.
Remember the Shrews games well, thought they was the better team at Molineux !
Here's the double decker bus commandeered by Telford Wolves for the pre-season friendly at Salop, Great fun all day, me and my boy decided we wasn't going home and returned for breakfast the following day, took some explaining to the wife how 9 miles took 2 days
It was a superb day out mate, thank you to @Tefal for showing us the delights of Shrewsbury, being our guide of the pubs and on how to get the bus
I wonder who is doing the Jack Hayward bit on the video
See you on the coach mate
Paul McGuire (their winger) who later played for Stoke for a guess ?
Saw some footage recently of the game commentated by Hugh Johns. What an absolute pudding of a pitch !
The chant of "You're gonna get your ****ing heads kicked in" is quite audible which I'm not sure if it's coming from the North Bank or South Bank. I also heard the name "Turner" mentioned for Shrewsbury which I'm thinking would be our own Graham Turner.
The infamous Clive Thomas of Treorchy was the ref that day.
Yes, remember the Boro game a year later too. Mel Eves, Normal Bell and John Richards our scorers in a 3-1 replay win at Molineux.
One thing is certain we don't want to be scoring more than 1 or 2 as we don't want to upset labour's Barry Sheerman.
Arrogant apparently to score a few goals against lesser sides what a **** the bloke is.
They are currently having a debate on tv about whether big sides are "bullies" if they score a lot of goals against lesser ones.
Graham Turner (later of Vile and us) was Salop's player manager then. Was renown for innovative set pieces....
Editted to add: Sheerman not you to be clear...
Yes that was him. Have seen that footage, he got the pen for them. I cannot remember that at all! Re the Boro game, unlike the Shrewsbury match, I remember we just turned up and paid cash at the turnstiles. Miss being able to do that.
Well we have missed out on being on the BBC this round - Arsenal v Man U on Friday 25th, Millwall v Everton on Saturday & Chelsea v Sheff Wed or Luton on Sunday with the draw for the 5th round on The One Show on the 28th at 7pm
When are the BT games announced?
Early kick off on BT on the Sunday written all over it!
Oh FFS, I despair
Confirmed as Saturday 3pm
When Turner was manager at Shrewsbury, they had a corner routine where the kicker hit a man who was at the near post and he would head it backwards into the danger area.
Also their keeper, Wardle, was sold to Liverpool a year or two later, so he was highly rated.
What was Daniel thinking with the challenge that got Shrewsbury the penalty?
What's one of them?
West Ham chosen by BT but on Saturday night so so far no reason to alter our PL game against them from Tuesday.
Just waiting for confirmation of Wolves' FA Cup slot now - one of the Saturday slots hopefully (12:30, 15:00, 17:30) or our game vs the Hammers will have to move back a day.
Bloody hell really?
Bloody hell we wish
If I was a betting person and the police have any say whatsoever Sun 1200 seems a virtual certainty
All tv picks confirmed . Saturday 3pm away day on the ale it is!
Still subject to police/ground licensing intervention.... Just how many local derbies (and either of these are more or less that) have been held at 1500 on a Sat any time recently? I will believe it when I see it...
Shrewsbury we might have half a chance. Stoke................
We played Stoke in the cup at 3 though no?
Was there trouble then?
Sure this trouble debate comes up when we play Stoke and most times it stays 3 o'clock.
You don’t see near post flick ons anymore
Every time we go to Stoke or Blues Molineux Mix goes back to the 70s and predicts riots in the streets
Blues I get because trouble does end up happening if it's left at 3, but I think I've seen us play Stoke once at a non 3 o'clock in about 10 years. Might be wrong though.
I remember going to Stoke at 1700 on a Sat. Police horses on the track between the stands and the pitch.... NOT fun!
We do if Nick gets a ticket
Brilliant day day that.
No trouble last time we played them.
As all tv games have been announced. Any ideas why date and time hasn't been announced on offical site yet? Can only think it's as we are not sure who we are playing.
I live in the local area, and any football related trouble is very isolated these days (as is at Molineux), the recent Vale v Stoke Checkatrade, being the exception, although that was down to mindless vandalism by a few young Stokies (who are being locked up on a daily basis) rather than outright street warefare between the two sets of supporters.
In previous times, some of the notorious "Naughty 40's" were locked up for their troubles and others just lost their appetite to get involved (old age being one factor), and found other ways to amuse themselves. There are still a few wannabe's but the cost (stadium ban) is a bit too much of a price to pay for most these days, so they flex their muscles and that's as far as it goes.
In the early 70's, it was absolute madness. I remember a game that kicked off at 3pm at the old Victoria Ground.
Some Wolves supporters in the local Stoke town area came into contact with Lord Mayor's limousine, and rather than compliment the build and quality of the said motor vehicle, they decided to push it over and onto its roof. I'm sure it made the front page of the local rag "The Evening Sentinel" at the time. Local shops were looted for their beer stocks, and many businesses decided to close early.
Inside the ground (if you made it), the away were housed in the un-coverered "Stoke End", opposite to their "Boothen End" and then the war of words commenced "You're gonna get your ****ing heads kicked in" etc.
In those early years, we always seemed to get something at their place (draws mainly), thanks to the likes of Kenny Hibbitt, Hugh Curran, Danny Hegan and Frank Munro. Truly happy days as long as you managed to steer clear of an oncoming Dr Marten boot !
My favourite ever game if we're thinking of the same one. We won 2-0. The atmosphere was ****ing electric.
Overseas TV games, 12 30 - 5 30 etc, (I think ) and 2pm.Sunday ?
Ok, we'll hold our breath then, thanks.
Definitely 3pm on the Saturday?
Hopefully it was just R3? And we can have a 3pm Saturday for a change
