Sounds like this could be close to a done deal but the key question remains. Is he materially better than those we already have?

I have a feeling that the Chinese proper hate the Japanese.

Maybe just another club trying to inflate the value of one of their own.

All I know is that I saw a few articles saying that some Chinese fans were cheering on Japan at the World Cup. My point was that I don't think Wolves signing a Japanese player would have a negative affect on the club's perception in China, in the same way that say if Fosun or someone else decided to buy a Chinese club and market it towards English fans, then those English fans wouldn't be bothered if said club had a German player.

Can’t say I know anything about him but Dortmund and Atletico were apparently enquiring in the summer so must have something about him.

Get Wu Lei in as well and we can be massive in Japan and China :D

Hate's a strong word. I'm assuming you include me in "we"?. I quite like the Germans. I work for a German company, drive a German car, drink German beer, have holidayed in Germany, it's nice. I'd recommend it, maybe broaden your horizons. Try the schnitzel. Enjoy the rail network.

    Totally different.
Japan to China and Japan to Korea will be quite a few generations before it becomes like UK and Germany relationship.

I certainly don’t think it would have a big impact on the clubs image in China, it would however be a slight negative (in their eyes), like a smudge on a painting. In that the painting will still generate interest but buyers will likely chose other paintings given a choice because of that small smudge. Although success on the pitch will bring in fans either way.

Also just want to add the Chinese opinion on the Japanese is a tad different to our views on the Germans:p.

It is important to understand that a “hate/distrust” of Japan is a key cornerstone to the modern Chinese cultural identity. Following the defeat of Japan in WW2 the narrative of the communist party (hero’s) saving the people from the (evil) Japanese was used to unify the country behind Mao and his government.

From then on Japan has been used as the “common enemy” to maintain the loyalty of the population to the party that “saved” them. Unless another enemy comes along, it is thus essential for the cultural dislike of the Japanese to be maintained and so the wounds of WW2 have not be allowed to heal. In fact, the Chinese are told that Japan never “apologised” for WW2 and instead just denies the attrociites which the Chinese see as mocking their dead ancestors.

On top of this, Chinese school children are repeatedly taught about the attrocities committed by the Japanese, often in graphic detail. Film and TV is saturated with dramas about the Japanese occupation and CCTV news will report anything regarding Japan in a way that looks antagonistic towards China. So this is pretty ingrained into them from birth.

It would be like if we were taught in school that the Germans felt no remorse for WW2 and were still essentially Nazis and then during class and on tv we were constantly seeing images of the blitz and concentration camps etc, it might make us abit wary of the Germans.:p

He sounds like a Nuno player-versatile along the front line. But we dont need five so I reckon Mendes will be asked to find a home for one of Costa,Traore or Cav I would let Helder go myself.

The treatment of the British by the Germans in the war pales into insignificance compared with the treatment of the Chinese by the Japanese, but I know what you're getting at.

He'd certainly be versatile enough to fit in to our formation, either the standard 3-4-3 or Wednesdays version.

Is he a big step above our current wingers though (I know they've all under performed in large parts this season but all have shown glimpses that they can play at this level if they do it consistently)? You'd feel his arrival would probably signal someone else moving on.

The one forward who you'd say may be in a bit of trouble if we start playing narrower in the front 2/3 would be Costa unfortunately as to me he's the least comfortable down the middle and prefers to drift out to the touchline...

For me it'd be disappointing if Costa were to leave though, I still feel there's potentially a top class player there but the longer he goes on without showing it consistently the more at risk he is of being moved on you'd think.

I have never heard of this bloke, but going off that YouTube video he looks quality. I’m not sure it means someone is off either. Perhaps Nuno sees Jota’s future as down the middle competing with Jimenez. If that were the case, we would have 3 wingers when we really need 4.

The sources seem decent so I wouldn’t be surprised to see us sign him.
