I think Chelsea would be on 8 (Wins against Man City and Arsenal, Draws with Liverpool and Man Utd, Losses to Spurs and Wolves), and we'd be ahead of Arsenal on goal difference.

Other than that you're right: -

    GW18 - 0 points
    PPG - 1.39
    Extrapolated points total - 53
Almost 50% of season is in the books and we have amassed 25 points - what a start to PL life!
Expected finish - Anywhere between 7th and 10th.

Played 2 more games at home than away so far - but our PPG is almost identical.

I won't get chance to update after Fulham, so next update will be for both GW19 and GW20 and will be on 31/12.

Have a good Christmas everyone :)

    Happy NYE everyone!

GW19 & GW20 update - 4 points - a good return and probably not the way round everyone expected, but by far the best way!
    PPG - 1.45
    Extrapolated points total - 55
    Expected final position - 8th/9th

    upload_2018-12-31_9-10-23.png

PPG by month. December turned out to be top 4 PPG form, with September being title winning PPG form. The other three months though....:oops:

    upload_2018-12-31_9-10-51.png

Slightly better away from home PPG
    upload_2018-12-31_9-12-21.png

    upload_2018-12-31_9-12-44.png

9 points from 7 games against the 'Big 6' is massive.
Compared to the other teams in the mini-middle league, this is streets ahead..

    Leicester - 6 points
    from 6 games
West Ham - 4 points from 6 games
    Brighton - 4 points from 6 games
    Watford - 3 points from 6 games
    Everton - 1 point from 6 games
    Bournemouth - 0 points from 7 games

As we are all aware, (Doc said as much in a recent interview) we play better against big teams as they don't focus on shutting us down. Nuno just needs to work out how to beat the teams around us, as our PPG vs the bottom 7 is decent at 1.86.

Most the effort is setting it up at start of season/doing a new piece of analysis - i find it interesting and thankfully other people do too -

either way - it beats doing work! :p

    Happy New Year Shiffers!

Most interested in the graph of our points against the big 6, middle 6 and bottom 7. Think what your graph shows is really clear:
-Against the big 6, we play with freedom knowing the pressure and expectation is off. The big 6 don't change their gameplan to stop us, and back themselves to outplay us and outscore us, which hasn't really happened.
-Against the bottom 7, we play our way, and more often than not our better quality shines through, even if the opponents try to snuffle us out tactically.
-Against the middle 6, the opponents will have plans to stop us playing or limit our chances, and unlike the bottom 7 they have quality in areas of the pitch which can hurt us. We've not played badly in any of those games apart from maybe Watford, but still only picked up 2 wins in 6 matches.

Agree 100% with all of that.

I have questioned whether there is increased effort/desire against the top 6 teams but maybe its just that we play better (and look like we are putting more effort in) as we have space to play our game.

I wonder when/if any of the Big 6 will ever adopt a 'stop Wolves playing' tactic - would be quite a compliment..

Interestingly I think Liverpool did Shifnal when they played both holding midfielders against us which is unusual for them

Guess we all made our own targets at the start of the season.
Mine was 41 points and placing was 14...both for obvious historical reasons.
New year and new targets.55 points which means a potential for place 7,and perhaps Europa League. We will reach 55 points if duplicating our previous results from this season.

    Nice thread and interesting statistics.

    Now time for Old Pulteney.

I wish every Wolves fan a healthy and happy new year.

I think we should aim to reach 50 points given how we have started. That would match or better Man City in their first year of big money, would comfortably better our prior best PL points total, and should have us finish just outside the European spots. That would be a fantastic achievement and a great foundation for a challenge on the European spots next season.

    Great thread, thanks Shifnal!

GW 21 & 22 - 0 points, with an FA cup win sandwiched in between.
    PPG - 1.32
    Extrapolated points total - 50
    Expected final position - 9th/10th

    upload_2019-1-15_9-33-18.png

    upload_2019-1-15_9-33-29.png

Looks like January will be another poor month points wise - so streaky!

PPG is best against the bottom 7 - proving the 'we play best against the bigger clubs' myth busted somewhat!

    upload_2019-1-15_9-34-17.png

Slightly behind Baggies 49 points haul at this stage, but ahead of City's 50 point haul season.

    Morning all!

GW 23 - 3 points, our first win of 2019.
    PPG - 1.39
    Extrapolated points total - 53
    Expected final position - 8th/9th

    upload_2019-1-21_9-24-55.png

Just one PL game left in Jan - if we beat West Ham it will be our third best month of the season.
    upload_2019-1-21_9-25-6.png
Saturday's win was our 3rd win in 7 games against the 'middle 6' teams.
    upload_2019-1-21_9-25-49.png

We are now 2 points behind West Brom's best ever PL season at the same stage. Ahead of our best ever PL season - but that doesn't need to be said lol!
    upload_2019-1-21_9-28-15.png

We are 1 point ahead of Man City's first season with big money at the same stage.

The win against Tottenham was the first time this season we didn't turn it into a mini-winning run. Hopefully we can this time!

Cheers for your hard work @ShifnalWolf

Just one question - I’m struggling to understand how on the one graph we are tracking below the baggies 49 points at same stage but on the other graph tracking above Man Citeh’s 50 points at same stage in their first big money season?

Man city got more points over 38 games than Baggies did. Baggies must have relatively faded later on. The graphs show only up to game 30. So in short, Man city finished stronger than Baggies did.
