Fair play to the man for taking a job lower down the leagues (granted at his home town club), too many ex pro’s moan about the lack of opportunity due to foreign coaches/managers, but don’t seem to have the balls or appetite to take a job at clubs with limited resources and budget.

I hope it works out for him.

No doubt Jose will be the first to stick the knife in if it doesn't immediately work out, not recalling the gazillions he spent at United and failed.

Surely theres a conflict of interest, has he sold his shares in salford, they could be playing each other next year?

He is allowed no more than a 10% stake at another club. He has a 10% stake as do the others I believe.

Top man is Paul, proper Oldham lad. If you ever met him you would have absolutely no idea as to the levels he achieved in the game.

My favourite England player with the exception of Gazza. Scholes has all the professionalism that Gazza didn't though. An absolutely outstanding player, the England team should have been built around him.

It's been common knowledge (up here at least - I work in Oldham!) that he was going to take the Oldham job for some time. I think it was assumed that he'd take control after their FA Cup game (as a reward to Pete Wild). I believe they've been seeking verification on the issue with his Salford shares to ensure that the FA have no problem with a conflict of interests. Would certainly be a bit odd if Salford get promoted.

Players can’t move between Oldham and Salford whilst he is in charge.

From what I read it won’t impact him being manager of Oldham if Salford are in the same league.

He's sold his shares apart from 10% so no conflict in interest

Scholes was one of the best players of a generation, shame a succession of England managers played him out of position.

Loved it when a Journo asked Zidane what it was like to be the best player in the world, Zidane answered "I don't know ask Paul Scholes".
    Really hope he succeeds....

I love Steve Bull. He's my boyhood hero. He still is my hero. You can only ever have one. The way I feel about Bully is off the scale compared to Scholes but come on, Paul Scholes. Truly world class. Truly exceptional.

Adrian Durham in Talksport this evening arguing that Scholes has taken the ‘easy option’ of going to a club where there was no pressure to do anything as nothing’s really expected of Oldham. Said Gerrard and Lampard had ‘put their reputations on the line’ by being brave enough to take on clubs where the expectations were high.

How many of that generation of England players are managing in the lower divisions at the moment? I can't think of many. Sol Campbell at Macclesfield. I'm not counting Lampard as the Championship is a relatively high level to start at

Most underrated player of that era in my opinion. Was the very best at what he did.

Reporter to Zidane: "How does it feel to be the best midfielder in the world?"

    Zidane: "Ask Paul Scholes."
