I was disappointed when Mourinho was sacked. He was dragging them down and I wanted him to stay all season. I had a feeling they would start playing for a new manager, and so they have.
I don’t see us getting 6th but I would be beyond happy with 7th.

Odds with Paddy Power for 6th

    Arsenal 1/100
    Man U 1/100
    Wolves 16/1
    Leicester 125/1
    Everton 200/1

Well if anyone is going to break the top six this season it's us! 16/1 probably a bit stingy though

Burton - don't quite get where you're coming from. West Ham were his first club - and they aint too shabby a club - after all they did have a certain Booby Moore as captain! So what if he loves them. He loves Wolves too and played well for us in the twilight of his career. It was a two way thing - Wolves were good for him - Paul Ince was good for Wolves. Do you not like him and if so why? I might be missing something here...

Of course its not outrageous to say we wont finish 6th, I dont think we will but I dont like Suttons attitude, he does say stupid things to get a rise and while its extremely unlikely I would love for Ince to be able to shove his smug words back down his throat. Not sure why you feel so agreived about my opinion

We won’t finish sixth...seventh would be fabulous.

Listening to toffee tv I realized that it’s all about expectations ..in the late 80s wolves got relegated straight down to fourth division while the toffees won the league.

They were eighth last year and desperately want to break into the top four...hence although 9th their fans think Marco Silva is a failure...we are a Couple of points ahead and ecstatic because we have exceeded all expectations....

But fans are fickle ...if we finish eighth and are ninth this time next year will some be saying Nuno out? I really hope not....stay humble, stay calm and don’t raise your expectations...you will enjoy it so much more.

I got 14/1 at the start of the season. It's worth having another fiver on us imo.

I think it'll be around 65 points for 6th but we'd need to win 9 games which I admit is a big ask...but it could be done. We play Uniturd at the Mol and 3 points will go a bit of the way towards catching them.

Burnley were out of Europe by the end of August, they overachieved last season and have now found their natural level, it's nothing to do with Europe

You're beyond deluded if you think OGS has come in with some grand masterplan tactically which is responsible for United improving. Mourinho was clearly toxic at United, so whoever came in would see a huge improvement in performances whether that's Ince, Hughes or the man in the moon.

United wont drop that many pts. Arsenal will have enough.

Chelsea are the club at the moment that would be most likely to drop out. Huge ask and it aint gonna happen. 7th & FA Cup run...

And won 9 out of 10? I don't think so. Improved performances maybe but none of those mediocre British managers would've achieved the same results. Ince was saying they would've done just as good, if not better. Not saying that OGS is a master tactician or anything else, just that the results achieved by him and his staff (can't underrate the role of Mike Phelan) wouldn't have been achieved by Ince, Hughes or Bruce. Wins away at Spurs and Arsenal with them in charge? No chance.

Looking at the points tally over past seasons to finish 6th. We will need to gain at least 25 points from games left. Optimistically I can see us gaining 21 at most.

    Wet blanket time.

Arsensal's season points per game average is 1.88, last ten games is 1.6, last six is 1.5. Even factoring in the way they're currently stumbling, that has them finishing on about 68-70 points for the season. For us to overtake them we need to win 10/11 out of our last 13 games. That's a rate of around 2.3/2.4 points per game, which is what Man City have been taking this season. MAN CITY. In perspective, our current rate over 6-10 games is around the 1.9/2.0 points mark.

Football ain't all about maths, but anyone thinking of placing a bet should know those odds should be more like 40/1 at the very least.

We're not finishing above 7th. Sorry.

If we finish 7th, it already means we will have had a storming end to the season, because we'll still need 6-8 more wins to achieve that. Good enough for me.

There's no chance in a few days OGS has suddenly "tactically inspired " united .. its motivation of players- nothing more, nothing less

Tell you what....with a possible Chelsea implosion as the players look to get shot of another manager, 6th suddenly becomes a possibility. Here's hoping they down tools again, like the professionals that they are.

Think it’s best if we reassess after tonight. Will be a very difficult game I imagine. If we win it, 9 points still separates us. Would require us to record 3 more wins over Chelsea to even go level on points. Big ask.

Indeed it is a big ask, but they've definitely got an England Cricket team-esque collapse in them.

All i'm saying is it's unlikely, but possible.
The fact that we can even say that is frankly ridiculous based on my Wolves experience in my lifetime.

The 6-0 spanking Chelski just had isn't just a bad day at the office, it's an actively not giving a **** mentality if you ask me. If it were normal level of play, then yes, it's practically impossible. But the current attitude of the players at the club suggests that they may well have a terrible run-in if they haven't gotten their way and had the manager removed.

The average points total for 6th place over the past five years is 65, so we'd need around 27 points from our last 13 games (2.1 PPG, compared to our current 1.5 PPG). We also have to play Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Chelsea in that time, so on that basis I agree it's unlikely. It would require the bottom to totally fall out of Chelsea's season (resulting in a significantly lower target than average), and us continuing to rock the big boys while maintaining consistency against the lower teams. It's not out of the question. Chelsea have to go to Liverpool, United, Leicester and Everton, as well as hosting Spurs and ourselves- which I suggest we would have to win. The way Chelsea are playing, Cardiff away is far from a banker. All this, while still having to fit three cup competitions around their league fixtures.
