I've spotted the time Edgy.
Not allowed to be there at present mate
I have a chest infection (Honest) and I did not want to pass it on to the other patients......
I am a good boy really
The same as Gibbs-White with 1 more goal and assist.
Quote from a Chelsea forum: 'Anyway, will give a shout out to Morgan Gibbs-White. Looks a real talent. 18 years old and put a top performance against us tonight.'
Can anyone post a copy of the Times article today? I'm not sure what sort of person buys the times, but it would be nice to see..
Well, I got my wish that Nuno would keep Jimenez and put MGW behind a two playing as a false 9 ( or No 10). I did want Cav to play up front but my guess is that Jota will start v the Toon.
I suspect that MGW won't start (rested) but could be brought on after the hour if Nuno feels we need more goal power but it must be quite a headache to decide who else will start besides Coady, Boly, Neves (I can't see him being benched), Jimenez and Rui.
For me, to keep a winning formula with Jota, Jimenez and MGW would be ideal.
What do others think?
I would be tempted to keep much the same team but rest João and play Neves.
For me Morgs plays.
After the Huddersfield debacle following on from the Watford game it was pretty clear to me we couldn't hold it together well enough with how we are. We needed that extra man in midfield and the forwards to be closer.
He is the creative solution for me in a 3-1-4-2 that can deliver a more robust system to meet all challenges.....we can attack with menace and defend with resolve. I believe we can confidently switch any of the options alongside Jimenez and do well enough.
Nuno just needs to see it.
Same sort of person who registers with them I guess? (In this case someone who wants to read a Wolves based article). I don't understand all this newspaper snobbery, if I want to read something in a paper for whatever reason, then I'll read it. The name on the front page has no bearing on it
Anyway, a link
The rise of Chelsea’s conqueror, Under-17 star Morgan Gibbs-White
I think he'll start against Newcastle myself and play another 60-70 minutes before having a couple of games off the bench. With the massive high he's bound to be on I think it's a good thing for him to go into another game so soon.
Going forward if we persist with the false 9 (I happen to think it was more influenced by the way Chelsea play and we wanted someone who could drop on to Jorginho - who then turned out to be Fabregas) I think it'll either be Jota or Cav playing the role. Although Moutinho also did well when he went up there so it could be him if Nuno decides he wants to keep the physicality of Saiss (or Dendoncker) in midfield.
Team selection and formation (sort of) dilemmas under Nuno, who'd have thought it?!
He HAS to start. No more messing around, none of this gradually giving him time nonsense. He along with Saiss were the best players on the park on Wednesday and I don't want us to become a team where "names" get special treatment over performers. Thats for teams who end up getting relegated or Man Utd.
It will be a different test for him sure, but I am convinced he can handle it.
I'm sure if he doesn't start it's nothing to do with names over performers, and all about how we handle a very young player. As in not too much too soon
I just cant see how dipping in and out the team will benefit over game time. Put it this way if we didnt have Neves coming back from suspension he would be the first name on the team sheet. Why make it different now? He was a catalyst to why we won that game. Could be no different Sunday.
So I was one of those who didn't think the lad was good enough, but based on his recent performances I will eat some humble pie and say I got that completely wrong.
Extremely impressive recently, and looks like he will have a very good future.
I will rely on Nuno's judgement. He seems to have handled MGW very well so far. I want to see MGW have a 15+ year top-flight career, ideally at Wolves but if not with a massive fee (and a sell-on), not to trash him through over use now. As someone said earlier Michael Owen and to some extent Rooney are great examples of how not to do it...
It wouldn’t surprise me if Wolves have received more offers/inquiries for MGW than Neves.
That is far from impossible. I'm sure that the big boys would have loved to buy him before he became better known... and of course he is home-grown...
Think Spurs and Man City were both linked with £5m moves for him 12-18 months ago. He'd cost far more than that now on potential alone
What we going to do with not one but TWO £110m midfielders in the team??
Is it better to use them for our aim or sell them for it? Hmmm...
We have 7 games in the next 4 weeks, I’m sure he will rotate the whole squad
... and not too long ago Jiz Poxey would have snatched their hands off... Thank God that things have changed, otherwise we would have been celebrating re-signing Sako to assist in our Chump relegation battle...
It'll benefit him far more than running him into the ground every game. There can't be uproar if Nuno doesn't start him, it's all to do with looking after him and making sure he doesn't suffer from burn out and the like as his body is still developing. As has been mentioned, Rooney and Owen both got going full time in their teens and had both passed their peak by their mid 20s. You can throw in a lot of players who at 17/18 were first team regulars, looked like they'd be world beaters and ended up suffering through injuries in their mid 20s.
His game time will increase, he'll be in and around the team, but we shouldn't really expect him to be a constant starter before he's 20 in my opinion (14 months away). Luckily, we're in a position where we don't have to rush him because we have plenty of other talented players in his positions.
Be patient with him and Nuno, it's the best way
*Sits back and awaits Robbie Keane comparison
I'm sure over time we will use him judiciously.
I feel he will be buzzing after that result and performance, we should then utilise this against Newcastle. The whole team will be well up for it, they will want to shake off the frustration of the poor run and build some momentum.
We have decent enough sub options to control his and the game situation; let's have him start and see what happens.
I just hope MGW plays in a similar role to Wednesday, a bit like a false 9 dropping into the space, where he can pick up the ball and run at players, as he did before slipping in a well placed pass to Jimenez for the first goal.
Surely it comes down to the fact he's our most effective attacking player at this point in time.
If he plays like that every week he'll be in the team every week bar the occasional rest.
Fully expect the start on Sunday. We need to fit the system to him as it stands but he seems to able to play several positions
I've just be talking to a few young guys in my local pub in Telford who played with MGW at Thomas Telford School a few years ago..
They told me they could see what an exceptionally talented player he was going to become
I think Liverpool were strongly linked with him last season. Not concerned about any clubs coming in for him with the owners we now have.
At Everton there was outcry by the fans that Rooney wasn't playing regularly but Moyes said he had to be introduced gradually becaue of what you said - "burnout."
I remember reading that Owen said that he'd played too often and for too long too soon.
Give the lad a break. Bring him on in some games, sub him at 60-70 mins in those he starts and give him a rest in others.
Yep. That's what I was saying earlier in the week. However, we need Jimenez in front of him with Jota or Cav and Traore can come on as sub for a stint.
Separate names with a comma.
