Not a place I'm too fond of (after getting acquainted with F Troop, Bushwackers & others over the years) - however plans like that need stopping, otherwise they will destroy lower/non league football

Why anyone would want ANY club to go out of existence is beyond me.

Can't remember too many Millwall fans marching along side us in the 80's, can't give a **** what happens to them so "deal with it"

Ah the old 'they didn't do it for us, so sod them!' fantastically mature. Wishing another club to go out of business is low.

Each to their own, would generally agree but prepared to make an exception in the case of Millwall a team and club I have no love for so will leave it there and ignore the insults, apologies for having a different opinion.

    @Rhoswolf

Just for info pal, you said vote the council out.

The Lewisham chief executive is the driving force behind the scheme. He isn't democratically elected and isn't electorally accountable. He can (and is) acting with impunity and has proven ties with the developer.

The Lewisham mayor is a director of a business associated with the developer and presents a clear conflict of interest.

Renewal (the developer) was founded by a former officer of Lewisham council.

Let's step away from Millwall for a moment, do you not find these actions an abuse of power?

It's each to eachs own in terms of liking them as a club but signing it can also act as a condemnation of the way this **** is exercising power, providing you feel strongly enough about the conduct of public officials.

I find that very interesting being a local - best contribution to the thread so far. It reminds me of the stories circulated in the press about Prescott's son in Durham concerning the development of the new shopping arcade there with respect to the issuing of contracts and mutual back-scratching.

Politicians, eh, whichever party they represent? The Tories we know about and Labour aren't squeaky clean with members of both parties being imprisoned. Farage with his monetary shenanigans being widely reported in the press. Power corrupts because the temptation to defraud or bend rules or dip in the till is too great. No wonder they fight tooth and nail to hold onto it and morality goes out of the window.

This is very true. Lewisham is building flats for the wealthy and are not producing social accommodation.

Very much agree. It's labour controlled in Lewisham.

They've let it happen over the years & I don't care for Millwall at all is my initial thought on the matter.

Who is there owner? Why don't they own the ground or have a lease on the land? Where are the protests?

A compulsory purchase order is in the process of being issued. Ownership or leases are irrelevant.

The council own the ground. It was the old Fisher Athletic site rented to them when Millwall were booted out of the Den 20 years or more ago.

    Scumbag club.
Don't understand why anyone is bothered.

A remodeling might drag them by the knuckles, grunting into the 21st century.

Read a very good article in the NYTimes about this situation (yes, they follow football) and it reminds me of the old Charlton situation many years back. Except I am not sure this club or its fans are admired by anyone, unlike Charlton at the time.

Dya know pal. You're the worst kind of Wolves fan. Anyone that would back a scroaty ****ty little club and then turn against their own fans just because they have a different view, should just **** off. So you're going to get a train down to Millwall and join in the protests? No? I didn't think so. You're that bothered, you've signed a virtual petition and called me pathetic for not agreeing with you. Ooh, you're so militant, you're an embarrassment pal.

hope this gets sorted and Milwall stay where they are. I totally understand people hating them, particularly those that went in the 70s, but they do also have a hard core of decent fans that I'd feel very sorry for.
I'm sure there are blokes in there 50s all over the country who've been done over in Wolverhampton on a match day.

Close in my case but I got lucky.

Despite a small number of decent Millwall fans who I know I can't stand them in general. Travelling on the same train with them on match-day is unpleasant and if it was known who I support there'd definitely be trouble. I can't stand their ground and don't like going to matches there although I do from time to time. As for the club, they do a lot of work in the community which I respect...but all in all I don't like them. However, I signed the petition because I object to the morality of the situation of their ground being taken from them to develop flats for the wealthy which will be bought as an investment. This has happened elsewhere in Lewisham and there's quite an outcry about it.

And yes, they wouldn't think about helping us, I have no doubt about it.

    Too true.
Thatcher with her "There is no society" i.e. every man/woman for him/herself.
Major and his "Classless Society". Believe that and you'll believe anything.
Blair with his "Cool Britannia" and "Third Way".
    Brown and his "Global Society".
Cameron with his "Hug a hoodie" and "Big Society".
    Milliband with his "New Society".
And now we have May with her "Shared Society".

    They all make me sick.

Have read quite a lot now but really cant understand some of the details. If we take away the political part of it and only talk about the supporters and Millwall as a club:

    1. Where do their supporters live? Do the majority really live close to the ground? I read a lot of things like "people have been forced out of the area".. so it does not seems logic the Millwall supporters live there anymore. I know some of the areas a bit south and east of the ground and the majority of the people living there seems to asians and one area is called "Little Africa" or something like that (Peckham?). But when I went to the ground I couldnt see a single asian or colored supporter. Millwall is clearly a club for "whites only". But very few whites live in the area.. That is very confusing. If I am wrong here - explain how and help me understand..

    2. If the supporters dont live close: Why is it a problem for the supporters to move to another ground? (except for sentimental reasons).

    3. Why is it negative for the club to move to a new ground? Are they not compensated with lots of money if they are forced to move out?

    4. Why should the club die if moved 10 miles? Could it not be a positive thing 5-25 years ahead?

I wrote above, mate, that many of them (possibly most) live in Kent - notably from Mottingham (lots of crime) and Sidcup (which are 7-9 miles away) and beyond although there are a few in outer Lewisham.

Dartford has been mooted as an alternative location and quite a few live there or along the railway line to it.

Moving a ground? It's part of a club's history which some cherish.

Would Millwall die? I don't suppose many care. ;)

I heard the relocation was nearer 75 miles.
Bermondsey in my experience is still a white working class area.

I suppose it's a bit like Whitmore Reans, 40 years ago you probably had a massive % of that estate going to games, these days very few I would imagine. Then Molineux moving to Shifnal way.

There are a lot of Nigerians and BAME there now, b/side. The white population in the borough is 53% but in that area I think it's safe to say that there are fewer whites as the white population is heavier in other parts of the borough.

Dartford is about 15 miles and Dover is 73 miles - I doubt that they'd move there.
