3 goals each already in 7 games over a season = 20 , plus we have Costa to come back .

    Bring on Forest.

Jota could and most likely should have had at least 3.

Jota is going to get 25-30 no problem, he's still getting warmed up. His ability is unquestionable, it's his attitude I'm most impressed with, he's stood up to the physical side of the Championship straight away. It's the sign of a great player to hit the ground running in a new league, no 3 months to settle in excuses for this guy.

They both missed sitters last night in the 2nd half but at least they are in the right positions. Still a shame that we couldn't find that striker in the window - a more powerful Bonatini

    What was the jota sitter.

Bonnatini sitter the one he didn't slide in for at back post I assume ?

I know I'm in the minority here and I accept I must be wrong. However, Bonatini looks slow and lacks intensity for me. He only seemed to touch the ball a handful of times in the first half last night (granted one was a goal). I genuinely think if we had someone with more pace, getting in behind instead we would push opposition defences back and allow more space for Cav, Jota, Neves etc.

    I agree Jota is class.

Bonatini was the side foot that almost went out for a throw in when he had an open goal , took it with his left foot if I recall and sliced it.

I agree regarding Bonatini , his link up play is very good but he really isn't a top class striker and still feel this will hurt us.

You mean the one he had about a quarter of a second to react to? He did well to get anything on it !

We already have too many good players for three positions. Another would lead to squad discontentment.

If Bonatini gets 20 tap ins this season - and I think he will score plenty - then I would be happy

Jota - when he hit the bar.
Bonatini - three yards out nearly went for a corner

I see the old-fashioned demand for THE striker is back, in the mistaken belief that THE striker doesn't ever miss sitters. Well, they all do, including Ronaldo, Messi etc, often more than once in a match. These two are still learning to gel and learning quickly, they both contribute to our build-up play as well as getting into scoring situations, just like Ronaldo and Messi do; THE striker only does the latter. Cav gets goals too as does Costa. We've scored the third highest in the League so far and conceded just two from open play.

These are exactly the sort of goals Ebanks-Blake used to score and we were all happy enough with him

    Bonatini as i see it

    Strength's
    Holding up Ball
    Control
    Positioning
    Excellent Awareness
    Excellent passing ability

    Weaknesses
    Pace
    Quick Reactions in Box

    Still Unsure
    Aerial Ability
    Finishing

Can very much see Jota and Costa playing off him rather than the other way round, as we know we could have done with an alternative striker with ability to get into the box quickly and get onto these balls, but would we get into the same positions?

Bonatini's goals are simple tap ins because his positioning is right. That's what good strikers do free up space for those around them and lurk in the right places ready to pounce.

I agree he is slow, i agree to an extent he lacks intensity but if he's making runs in behind then he's not linking up play. He was awesome last night. He's doing exactly what i expect Nuno is asking of him. He's built an underatanding with Jota and the midfielders, he drags defenders all over the pitch which creates the spaces for the inside forwards. The system is working. We look like a constant threat and it gets the best out of players. We had 21 shots last night and scored 3 goals. Why would we tinker with that?

Couldn't believe that Jota missed. I was still looking for the ball in the net about 2 seconds after it had rebounded off the bar. Should have scored.

Embarrassed at the comments about Bonatini, I thought he was pretty good last night. Support the kid, he's already scored 3 in 7 what else do you want? We have enough goals in the front 3 to guarantee 15-20 goals twice over in my opinion. Stop going on about another striker, the guy we missed out on on deadline day isn't even that good, he hadn't hit double figures since 2013-14. Don't personally see the point in adding a mediocre player to an already strong front 3. Leo is doing exactly what Nuno wants him to. Get in good positions, make good runs, drop deep to receive the ball. All this to free up space for the 2 supporting forwards, that's the basis of our game.
We have what we've got, support them, don't bemoan them.

I think Costa jota and bonatini will all get around 15 goals each maybe slightly higher , cavaleiro should get to double figures aswel.
With regards to the missed chances, yes they are really frustrating but I'd be even more frustrated if we weren't getting any.
Chris wood missed loads of chances last season for Leeds and still got about 25.
If they didn't miss chances they wouldn't be playing for Wolves in the championship.

You mean like Afobe for about £15m+ and when he didn't want to drop down to Champ? Bournemouth fans complain he's too slow too. How does a Championship side with no Prem parachute money justify spending £20m on a striker who hasn't got big development potential as an investment (like £15m for Neves) & is a massive liability in FFP?

Or like Aboubakar for £15m+, who missed endless sitters in that tournament he was in this Summer?

Or Gallagher for £12m+ who got subbed for Brum last night after little impact.

Or Olveira, who's part of a team with a minus 5 goal difference already?

Bonatini's buy deal is apparently £5m+, he's doing great and is a great prospect, people need to reconsider their expectations.

Bonatini - still to be convinced. Tends to slow us down and often plays a backward pass rather than turning and picking a forward option, was better in the second half but happened on a few occasions in the first half.

Jota - absolute class. Anyone think he can be better than Costa? It took Costa a couple of months to get up to speed last year and Jota is tearing it up from day 1.

When Costa returns my front three would be:

    Cav Costa
    Jota

I wasn't at the match last night but just watched the full 90 minutes extended highlights and Bonatini really impressed me. Why?

    1. Because of his tenacity in one-on-one battles with his back to a defender. He won a lot of ball for us in these situations and it often then broke to Cav or another Wolves player who moved it on quickly to further develop the attack. This is what a target man does and he does it well. He also won a few aerial duels when the ball was pumped up towards the opposition half.
    2. Because of his many runs to the near post, which included his header assist and many other occasions when the slightest indecision from a defender would have resulted in a goal.
    3. Because of his late arrival into the box, after being involved in build-up play, getting into the kind of spaces that can open up for players who do that.
    4. Because of his good incisive interplay with other forwards, particularly Jota.

This is the complete package of what you need in a modern striker. As for his lack of pace, I would rather have his ability to think quickly in the final third, which all top players have had even when not gifted with natural pace. The rest of our forwards all have pace, so this is not the drawback it would perhaps be if we only looked to Leo as the one to stretch defences or make runs into the channels.

The fact that our attacking play is a little unconventional for this League is a plus for me, as we've seen how hard these sides find it to cope with our attacks.

Leo is playing the role that Nuno wants him to play, which is to link up play, be patient and search for the openings, at the same time you can see him and Diogo are building up a partnership, What are some of you guys really wanting ?, a few weeks ago most wanted a 15 goal a season striker we have two yet you still look for faults.

Quite, Leo, Jota, Cav and Costa are all more than capable of getting well into double figures, isn't that a good position to find ourselves in, or am I missing something? It's our leaky defence that needs tightening up right now and it's time for Nuno to earn his dough and sort it out, which I believe he will.

And we haven't even unleashed Zyro on the league this season yet. Or Costa for that matter.
