Yeah, absolutely crazy money, no chance we will spend that on one player.

But I doubt even the big boys will spend that on a highly rated up and coming player either so maybe there's some room for negotiation... let's see if we can get the Benfica President over again and show him a good time

That's a release clause not what they expect. No one will pay that for a teenager. What is the world record for a teenager?

Don't read into the 130m release clause or whatever it is he has.

I'm sure @portugaletc or @PTW could clarify but as far as I'm aware at any chance of quick money and the benfica owner/president will sell. I reckon around a £35-45m bid from someone in the summer and he'll be gone imo

Just remember bloody João Teixeira had a £45m release clause at Benfica and he's not even worth £2m as far as I'm concerned

He’d be a good fit for us, very talented and could either play behind the front two in the formation we currently use or compete with Jota on the left if we reverted to a front 3 again

Release clause isn’t anything to be concerned by all Portuguese, Spanish & Italian clubs love inserting ridiculous clauses in to protect them from having their players poached by other clubs, they would accept a significantly lower offer around £30mil would probably be accepted

Correio da Manha, the site SkySports have quoted the news from aren't very reliable at all, wouldn't be surprised if it had just been made up tbh, 61m in a position Liverpool don't even need seems a bit of a large stretch, especially when I'm pretty sure Klopp came out and said he didn't want/need anyone in January.

Looking at the article on Felix in the mirror have to love some of the comments from some of the idiots. Comments like he will only go to Man City and Barca. Funny that. I remember when Man City would have been laughed at for links to the players they now have. Fools dont understand much about our owners and links.

We had scouts at Benfica vs Sporting last week. Probably just paper adding 2+2 and getting 5. I could see him getting talked into joining Wolves for a few years as a step up to one of the big European clubs, rather than going straight there and sitting on the bench, but I would be shocked it we were willing to pay the £70m+ it would take.

Wow, that’s some HITC level stuff there.
He’s Portuguese, so is Mendes, done deal.

Can’t see Benfica being desperate for cash either since we’re all praying we’ll be throwing a load at them for Jimenez.

Does anyone think a loan is a possibility.
Benfica would see him get first team football in favourable surroundings, ie Portugese coaches and team mates. He could learn from Moutinho and Neves. They could then sell him to a big European club if we can't afford him.

Strikes me as exactly the kind of deal we might potentially offer. Season long loan with a high but reasonable option to buy - like many of our signings. Could potentially be a flexible option up front, allowing us to play either two or three up front. The J’s need quality cover / competition, and we’ve seen more than once, our current options when we don’t play them lack a cutting edge.

Ultimately, we need someone who'll offer more than Costa is at the moment and Cavaleiro isn't good enough for the level we want to reach. If we want to get to the next level, we need to push the boat out.

It's actually law in Spain for every player contract to have to include a buyout clause. Presume the same is true of Portugal.

But yes, the figure is usually way out of kilter with the player's actual market value and rarely activated. Neymar being a very notable exception!

Can’t see them loaning him to us as a poor season and his value would drop rapidly.
Look at Renato Sanchez his value was sky high, a poor season at Bayern and then Swansea and he’s gone backwards very quickly.
It will be buy or nothing

Think we have an established track record of making most of our loanees increase in value, and specifically so with Benfica, and with a Portuguese biased squad and coaching team, he would fit in better with us than anywhere outside of Portugal. If the rumours of interest from Liverpool and others are just paper/agent talk, which is quite possible, and we finish strongly around where we are now, then we may well be the first choice club for young upcoming Portuguese players looking to break into the Premier League.

I don’t know anything about this lad, but if he’s going to become a monster then I wouldn’t be surprised to see us get him. At the end of the day we are going to need world class players to break into the top 4, and the best way for us to do that is to keep buying 19, 20, 21 year olds before they reach their peak and cost twice as much money.

I just get the feeling we’ve already missed the boat on this lad.

Not just because of reported interest from all the big guns and the price tag, but because he’s already shining in the first team, with a run of games and goals.

That’s not been our MO so far. It also leaves far less bargaining power, in terms of what we can offer the player to make him desperate to leave so Benfica might budge on the release price.
When they’re starved of games like Jota, Neves, Jimenez, Boly, the players with their agent have some right to leverage their way out for less than top dollar.

The one thing we can offer him is Premier League, which is a decent draw, and likely more game time than any of the bigger clubs might.
But they’re the only ones that might be able to afford him.

Jota starved for games? 37 in all comps season before us.

Also that was our recruitment policy - wouldn't be shocked if we tweaked it.

Put it this way, Neves was linked to the biggest clubs in €60m moves. Next thing you know he's moved for £15m to the championship.

These figures flying around are rubbish till he moves club

Fosun seem to be taking the approach of targeting clubs imminently troubled by FFP, and getting players who would otherwise be unavailable at knockdown prices. I believe that was the case with Ruben and Porto (though to this day, I don't quite know how we fended off the competition). This is why I can't see us splashing out £50m+ full whack on a kid, when we could sign 3 talented players for the same price from clubs who haven't managed their finances very well.

27 domestic appearances on loan to Porto.
So he could only get a game by moving from Atletico.

How is that disproving what I said, or in any way comparable to Felix, now a regular 1st team starter for his club, rather than having to go elsewhere to get games?

As to transfer policy, yes I’d like to see us gradually moving up the transfer ladder.
But even half his release fee doesn’t sound viable within our current FFP constraints.
If all other revenue was equal, we’re still allowed to spend/lose/invest considerably less than any team that has been in the prem for the last 3 years, because of the 3 year rolling loss limit.
