Ok I know its not actually his birthday today, but scoring today was critical for him, and his performance was excellent too.

You can imagine the pressure for him, not scored yet in the Premier League, people (as they do) start casting doubt etc etc.

Diogo - ****** love ya man, so pleased for you, and all the lads - but tonight especially overjoyed for yow my special favourate player!

Ok......where was his mojo before when we needed it?
Sorry, I have been reading sbout the possible firing of Nuno, relagation,etc..so....for the last few weeks.
...if you indicate that he is back.....where was he or others when, at a massive salary , we needed them?

Thank you Doc for laying off that tap in.

He was off form, struggling to adjust and lacking a little confidence, it happens to people.

Just needed to focus on the positives, have belief, look forwards and work hard, you should try it.

You are a very patient person.....”he was off form”.....”it happens to people”.
Tell that to the fans of the 3 teams going down.

How much money does he make a week?......

    btw....

ITS NEARLY XMAS.....season started Aug. 11th.

Vancouver - he's a young lad who has taken longer than some others admittedly, but I love the lad and am sure he will come good. Its not a lack of effort, and yes it was a tap in, but he could easily have missed it.

Confidence is a big thing with strikers, the longer they go without scoring the more difficult it becomes, that goal will have given him a massive lift as well as the great support that he got from the fans.
Form us temporary class is permanent!
Great to see him hit the back of the net.

I’ve been watching football for over 30 years and this is the third set of players I’ve seen move up to the top flight. It’s no surprise that Jota has struggled, yes there is an element of patience, but it’s also just an understanding of how sport works and the money thing, as unpalatable as it is, is irrelevant.

He’s not out the woods yet, but his goal and performance last night will have helped. He comes across as a mentally strong level headed lad though so I’m hoping he’ll build on last night.

Earning a lot of money makes it even worse when your confidence is shot and your performance is poor.

Yes, there are spoilt kids-become-adults here and there who don't care. The vast majority of us however wants to do our job properly and feel that we earn our salary. From what I've seen of Jota in interviews etc. he seems to fit into that category.

I am also delighted for him. If we get and keep Jota on fire we'll have a hell of a player even at this level.

He was excellent long before his “tap in”, though if he hadn’t of been intelligent and hard working he wouldn’t of been in that position to “tap it in”

He's a good honest professional and was still trying his hardest in the bad spell. If anything he was over trying and wasn't being fluid or natural. Lump money on him for a goal Sunday as last night will have him back at his buzzing best.

There will be very few Wolves fans who think he didn’t try hard, play well or deserve that goal last night, and even fewer who are not pleased for him. Well done Diogo! Now score a hatrick against Newcastle just to show you can :)

Me thinks people forget he is still young and living in a different country.
Most young players have spells where things dont happen for them, and the longer it goes the harder it becomes to turn it around.
I hope his performance last night gives him the lift he needs to push on and show the idiots who have been slating him, what hes capable of.
The fans reaction to his goal shows how much he is loved by the people who attend.
I am sure MGW will go on to have a great career but he will someday have a similar spell, i hope people wont turn on him as they did on jota and costa.

He looked so happy to have scored. I know it's easy to get over excited after a win but one thing you have to give Nuno - he really has the players showing the love for their club. It's like he's been a fan of the club his whole life and is selling the club to his players.

If you watched the game last night, you'll have noticed the absolute transformation in Jota when he scored. He was playing ok before the goal but after it he went onto a completely different level. It clearly lifted a huge weight off his shoulders. Surely you can understand that a tough start in a higher league would knock the confidence of a young player?

    Of course I do...and yes he celebrated...naturally.
But my point is, and many, many posters have been more critical of him than I and with good reason.
However, my point is that this is a dog eat dog league and there’s not much room or time for ‘adjusting’.
There have been threads about relegation, possible firing of Nuno and other concerns expressed quite clearly.
I sincerely hope that his goal will build his confidence...guess we’ll see.

And the threads about sacking Nuno and relegation are from... pant wetters :D (feel free to administer punishment!).

A lot take time to adjust to the league. As I said yesterday, Jota's season has seen him get badly clattered within 45 minutes of kicking off, taken off at half time after being ruthlessly punished for two mistakes he may have got away with last season. Then he was possibly trying too hard to force the issue, and unlike Costa on the other side he hasn't been getting the chances falling to him. Follow this up with a minor injury, then our dip in form, him on the bench and it's a psychologically very tough start to PL life for a 21 year old who has been used to scoring goals all of his (albeit short) career so far.

Talking about the wages he's on, and suggesting he should automatically be producing because of his salary, is ignorant at best

Well that just shows there are a number of idiots on twitter. Hardly news is it?

I imagine it’s the same at every club, some ‘fans’ turn on the players that have got them where they are, not exactly support

That's true, but it's always the time to dig deep, and four points off sixth, we've done well up to now and should only get better.

The only thing I'll add is I wasn't referring to his celebration when he scored - as you say you'd expect a celebration - I was referring to how he played. Before his goal he was a 7/10, after it he was a 9/10, that left side was his and he suddenly looked like the Jota of last year. If he carries it into Sunday then it's great for us all

No surprise to me that when he has a more attack minded wingback down his flank to offer support, and let Diogo use him as a dummy runner, that his game is back on track. His best moments, last season with Douglas, and this week with Vinagre are utilised with the combination play offered by the wingback in the attacking third. Be interesting to see if he can keep his form when we return to Jonny and his natural tendency to play more inside with Jota operating more as a winger which doesn’t suit him.

Jota was lively last Friday and much improved tonight. Goal should help his confidence. Now we just need Helder to start firing .....
