    RIP young man.

I hope for the sake of your family that the press have some respect and stop publishing the legalities and demands of the transfer fee between clubs. Everything from now on should be done respectfully in private.

Because, very simply, the priority of the 'authorities' is to find people alive. There is not an endless budget (unless you'd like to pay much more tax!) for indefinite speculative searches when there is no chance of survivors.

    Editted to add:
The size and nature of the plane also had something to do with the decision making. For example, if this had been the first incident involving a new type of airliner there would have been a much more intensive initial search as it would be important to fully understand the causes because of the safety considerations and the number of people potentially affected downstream in the future.

A gut wrenching saga meets its grim, inexorable conclusion. I hope they can find Mr. Ibbotson, but it's unlikely. RIP.

I saw that a couple of Saints fans are looking at bans for directing airplane gestures at Cardiff fans yesterday.

Sick **********s, i see Southampton are saying they may face a ban of up to 3 years it should be a lifetime ban, these kind of folk are not wanted in the game, not only is it taunting of the worst kind, but it could have provoked a worse reaction between rival fans, Im glad this was spotted, and they were identified..

Idiots. Don’t need people like that. Well done Southampton for doing something about it, agree it should be a lifetime ban though.

Agreed, very class gesture from Gary too.

There was an article about Mbappe a couple of months ago in fourfourtwo, he comes across as just a really humble, nice guy. And what a player too.

Mbappe gives all of his international match fees to charity. A grounded class act. Then you see Pogba ...

    What’s Pogba done wrong?

Saw him give his shirt to a young lad at Fulham yesterday who had made a sign asking for it. Only a small gesture compared to Mbappe, but he seems a good bloke.

Whilst you might find what they did distasteful, people in this country are free to make aeroplane gestures. People don't have the right not to be offended and the talk of bans and the fact that the police were involved is utterly ludicrous. Rather Orwellian actually.

...and if it had led to a reaction from the Cardiff fans? They were ****s and their apologists are little better. Go and express that view to a Cardiff fan but l suggest that you have a pre-arranged dental appointment set up. Certainly don't expect any sympathy either.

Oh, for the record what you wrote is balls too. There are quite a number of grounds (eg race, sexuality, gender, disability) where people do have a right not to be offended and spouting **** is likely to see you prosecuted.

I don't know. Compulsory attendance at Cardiff for 3 years, with a cozy chat with the Cardiff fans each fortnight, might be more appropriate.

Well I think we should be able to have a discussion without resorting to threatening language.
The behaviour of the Cardiff supporters would be their own personal responsibility. That's what adults do, take responsibility for their own behaviour even in the face of provocation. Otherwise it ends up being like a primary school playground.
I'm not an apologist for the Saints fans' behaviour by the way. I would be critical of it. I merely seek to criticise the response to it all too.

    What are you on about?

Those fans knew exactly what they were doing. At best is was distasteful and at worst it’s disgusting and provocative. I’m all for free speech but this is blatantly wrong.

Apparently l have an absolute right to behave like a **** and no matter how provocative l am any reaction is not my fault...

Methinks Green Wolf knows little about the Courts and how provocation is addressed...

So you agree with me then. The behaviour was disgusting but we're for free speech and freedom of expression. That doesn't mean only the speech and expression we personally like. It means the stuff we don't like too.
The response has been over the top and the involvement of the police is Orwellian.

Ever heard of behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace... It has been on the statute books for a very long time! Even in the US, which has free speech as a constitutional right, the Courts have found that there are limits.

That legislation refers to people who are committing acts likely to cause physical harm to others or their property. It wouldn't cover people making some gestures that some people choose to take offence at.

It’s a sensitive and emotive issue. There’s free speech and there’s abusing it. Of course you can have free speech but equally you can’t go round doing/saying what you like, especially if that is likely to offend or upset people.

Except it's not. Free speech is great but you've gotta have consequences for people who abuse the right to free speech. I bet these idiots making these gestures weren't thinking about free speech when they did it.

I'm sorry but you are just wrong on this. People are free to be obnoxious in our society, because the alternative is worse. That alternative being that somebody somewhere decides arbitrarily on your behalf what you can and cannot say. People have no right not to be offended.

How is making an aeroplane gesture covered by free speech? Which btw, is one of the least understood laws ever. It's like all Americans thinking they have a devine right to own a gun...

Try actually reading the free speech laws.

We haven't had free speech in this country for years, if anything i do or say can be seen or heard can be deemed to have caused offence, intentionally or not, then i may have committed a crime.

    Absolutely, our Jade.

Free speech is acceptable along with an understanding that what is said is within the confines of social acceptance so free speech comes with a sense of responsibilities. If we tell the Queen, our bosses, our families or our friends etc to **** off then we have to accept the outcome.
