Favourite player last season, so really have been desperate for him to get his first goal in the Prem.
Delighted! Well done Diogo, now bang a couple more in Sunday!
You could see how much the goal lifted him, he was like a man possessed and had Costa got his head up, could've had another one.
He had a really tough start to PL life. Clattered badly less than 45 minutes into his debut, hooked after 45 in his second game and then it became a real uphill struggle
Here's hoping he's REALLY back, fancy him to get a goal Sunday now
That goal could be absolutely huge in the context of both his and our seasons.
Was playing well before the goal but looked like a man possessed after it. Let’s hope he can kick on from here.
And people question our team's passion?
Did very well.
I always felt that both he and Costa would struggle a bit up against the higher quality in this league. Was really poor previously so hopefully this can give him some confidence to step it up.
Could be the recent talk of players were are supposedly looking at for his position might have been a motivator.
I was desperate for him to score tonight and wanted him to start with Jimenez and Gibbs White. Delighted for him.
Moutinho s reaction was amazing as well.
A last season villa at home performance by him
Put in a shift
Diogo is back. Diogo is back alllo allo.
Diogo is back. Diogo is back alllo allo.
I am hoarse from cheering.
Jota is a class act, tonight he was back to his best and so strong all night long.
A huge huge plus for us if we can get diogo firing. His attacking play often sets the tone for the rest of our forwards. So so crucial IMO
He looked much better in his second half stint against Cardiff too. His form has improved markedly but I think a factor in it is having Vinagre at left wing back rather than Jonny. I know we all love Jonny but I think we are quite lopsided going forward with him in the team and Jota just wasn't getting the ball in the right areas.
Said it in the match thread but that is my favourite jota goal, even tops the villa goal for me
The team and himself really needed that goal! I haven’t celebrated like that in a while
Even thought he was great first half there was one run down the left side where he just knocked two or three tackles away and played in Vinagre, I said to my mate, Diogo's back! Then he gets the winner!
Absolutely superb tonight
These are young lads................but they bloody care!!
He linked up well with MGW a number of times second half. If they can build on that, then that could be really important in improving our forward play after a long run of the team firing blanks.
So pleased for him tonight. Welcome to the Premier League Diogo!
I love diogo, really pleased for him.
Thanks Diogo, glad you are back, remember your only 22.
Glad he got a goal at last
He is most definitely back. The boost he got from scoring that goal was HUGE, he was chasing lost causes like a dog to a bone just like last season. He linked up superbly with Vinagre all night. The only change I can see coming against Newcastle is Neves for Saiss, and even that is incredibly harsh given the performance Saiss has just put in having been sat on the bench for 4 months.
I think we've found the right formation for the personnel we have, and that means building a team around the superstar talent that is Morgan Gibbs-White, who made N'Golo Kante look like he was the one making his Premier League debut at the tender age of 18.
I've been saying this all season. We looked unbalanced with Jonny and whoever played on the left was out the game. Vinaigre has a lot to learn but he's improving each game and is good going forwards. He has much more he can give.
It was his birthday this week and he presents us this beautiful gift. Thanks Diogo.
We love you.
Yes I do sometimes and their urgency.....sometimes.....as does Nuno...Shi....
Jota played well and really hope his goal sets him on his way for the rest of the season, but for most of this season he has been pants. Let's not let the euphoria of the win disguise the fact. One swallow and all that!
It was never in doubt.
21 coming into the Premier League for the 1st time with a newly promoted club, against better defenders.
Actually played very well in certain games without scoring.
Was dropped (rightly so) at the perfect time by Nuno.
I was PRAYING he'd start last night, that was the perfect amount of time off for him to re-think and work hard.
Jota is the ****ing balls.
If he starts against Newcastle (which I hope he does) he will terrorize them.
So pleased for Jota
Me too, he's pivotal to the way we play.
He takes it to the opposition with pace and purpose, constantly wins free-kicks with his bullishness and willingness to put his body on the line.
He's the key IMO
He scored a few of those type of far post goals last season. He's had a few not come off this season, like the one against Arsenal when Leno saved. Great to see him score. Hopefully it will give him confidence for the next few games.
A cautionary note for the people writing him off last week who are probably writing Costa off now.
We have some great attacking options but individually their form will fluctuate its up to Nuno to play them to strengths as and when its not a simple pick a 3 and stick.
Great to see him get back on the score sheet, a huge confidence boost for him. A confident Diogo Jota is exactly what we've needed.
He's more than good enough for this league, a top top talent. I just think a little like Costa and Cavaleiro now he was guilty of overthinking things earlier in the season, lacking that little bit of belief in himself. That said I thought he was excellent away at Manchester United.
I'm not surprised and think it has something to do with Jonny not playing. He's a good player, really good but he enters Jota's space too much and resistrics him, having Ruben Vinagre allows Jota to play his natural game a lot more.
The smile was back on his face - he's enjoying the game again.
Thank you VP, got a great home screen on my mobile now to remind me of great goal!
