If Bennett had pace and was good at passing the ball then he'd be playing for Real Madrid. He is **** at passing but makes up for it by reading the game well and being great in the tackle.

We've just been promoted, Bennett is 10x better than Berra was.

Ps dendoncker is a midfielder who was shoehorned into CB by Anderlecht on occasion.

Looked very good, did the Donk. Slotted in seamlessly and was very composed

    What a tackle though...

In all honesty Donck looked like a player who would be at ease in this league.

At this moment, I trust Nuno to make the right decision in whether he plays one, the other or both.

I think we'll see more of him for sure.

He had a huge smile on his face at the end when they came up to South Bank aswell.

The things you criticise him for are things other players were far more guilty of today including moutinho, saiss and vinagre. They were all throwing in hasty challenges and putting us under unneccesary pressure.

I accept he isn't the most skillful of players with the ball at feet, but I think he's good enough for where we currently are. And his defensive play more than makes up for it.

Eventually you'll be correct if we keep improving, he will be replaced but you're lack of appreciation for the good work he does, and your incessant jumping on any slight slip up or negative makes it difficult to believe you have a balanced view.

Something else to consider is we could get a top class ball playing CD in to replace him, but if they don't defend well we would be exposed massively very very quickly, so all the midfield splitting passes and outballs would be overshadowed by defensive slipups. For me, at the minute, it's a case of be careful what you wish for. Hopefully Dendoncker, if he does play that role rather than midfield is as defensively astute as Bennett otherwise it wouldn't take long before Bennetts bought back into the fold to shore up the defence.

Yes he was impressive, maybe there is no sinister reason why he’s not been playing, he’s just been considered behind others, still think he’s going to struggle to nail down a starting place somehow, who does he replace?

Well your entitled to your opinion, and whilst distribution isn't his strongest point, Ryan deserves and has totally earnt immense respect from the staff and fans at Molineux.

He won a strong 50/50 & put a few tackles in, hopefully he’s now up to speed with the game & he’ll give us another option.

I don't get this Bennett vs Dendoncker debate. I think Dendoncker should be considered at max at a emergency or tactical option at the back (same with Saiss).

Centre midfield... that's a different case. I liked his cameo - he looked strong, composed, quick and good technically.

My dream is that both the players and the club keep growing and then in the long term to have Dendoncker-Neves midfield with MGW ahead of them in a formation similar to yesterdays.

Would certainly make a lot of sense in Football Manager anyway. :D And I get a constant feeling that last 1.5 years at our club is like a dream FM game. ;)

Tbf it’s hard to disagree with Okresh, dendonker is far better player, nothing against bennett he was solid last night defensively but he is at same time limited

Yeah annoyingly Bennett does boot it a fair amount. Thats not to say is doesn't do a lot right I just think when comparing the two Dendonker is best playing the ball which you'd hope thats the where we'd want to be. Bennett is no Coady in that respect.

I think the point that is being missed in promoting Dendoncker's better footballing credentials is that it is done by devaluing/ignoring what Bennett brings to the rearguard..

In box defending situations would Dendoncker be able to read, commit and execute in similar fashion??......it won't be a case of suddenly the need for last ditch defending is going to go away.

It must be remembered that he is in fact a defensive midfielder and sees that as his primary position.

    It's different strengths and qualities.

He looks a unit, I can see him and Neves playing alongside each other sooner rather than later.

I definitely wouldn’t drop Bennett for him, nor even try to play him anywhere at the back. He’s a midfielder first and foremost.

We talk of Bennett v Dendoncker, but perhaps he was an option for Coady instead? Coady made the step up required in the Prem and has been consistently one of our better players so difficult for Nuno to drop him. (Bennett has been solid as well) If Coady gets injured Dendoncker would probably replace him, (or maybe Saiss would) We have been fortunate that apart from Jonny we have not had any major issues which has limited the opportunities for LD and Saiss although that may change by January

    Highly doubtful mate.

Hes spent the majority of his career as a defensive midfielder - and the other third as a right sided center back in a back 3.

Good to see Dendonker get a few minutes under his belt
    Looked composed on the ball
Fitted in well in my opinion
    Gives us options

I don't think anyone disagreed that Doncks was probably the better player. The argument at the time was there was no good or fair reason to drop Bennett for Doncks because he was playing well and we were winning.

After last night (the first time I've seen him live) he's most certainly a classy defensive midfielder, with enough ability to maybe drop back into the back three either tactically or necessarily depending on the situation.

I'm torn with Bennett because he's such an excellent defender, but his distribution can sometimes be detrimental to the way we want to play, especially against poorer sides.

I was impressed by his composure, you might expect him to be over-eager to impress given the wait he has had but he looked very comfortable.

The natural competitor for Bennett is Iorfa. Yes I know...... but would have been useful against cardiff for instance. Strong in the air and very quick and much better at centre back than wing back.

Maybe because they are the teams who put the midfield and defence under pressure so has no easy short pass to the creative ones.

Okresh, I wasn't going to say anything about your love in with this 23 year old "wonderkid" who is no doubt a good footballer, but what do you expect Bennett to do when he's on the edge of the Chelsea box? Skin one of their defenders and set up an assists? You know Nuno is the one that tells them to reset and pass back to defense until we find an opportunity, right? We've seen one season and a half of this. When we get to the edge of the opposition box and then reset, that's all due to Nuno. Do you expect him to shoot? He was criticized for doing so against Cardiff. Literally he was told to "SHOOOT" by the crowd, and when he did so, our supporters got mad. I'm not Bennett's biggest fan, but if you're seriously mad that he's keeping the love of your life out of our side because of "one tackle" then you didn't watch the whole game, because despite the greatness of his tackle keeping things at 1-0, he did far more than just that. Yes, his distribution is poor, and often puts us under pressure, but you can tell he's instructed to pass it short to Coady, Boly, or Doherty. Give it a break, Okresh. If Nuno wanted Dendoncker to play RCB, he would have done so already. Instead he put Saiss there. But of course, you know better than Nuno, right? Don't we all?

Very misleading though, we hadn’t won for six so dropped bennett....

So every right this stage to ask the better player to step up

I definitely see Dendonckers future for us as a midfielder. He'll be able to play CB if needed but I don't think that'll be his main position.

That's what I meant. The original argument was made after the first 7-8 games when we'd only lost once and were playing really well.

Equally, the first 5-or-so games of the bad run we were also playing pretty well and were somewhat unlucky so major changes weren't really necessary. Last couple of games before Chelsea were pretty woeful so changes were completely justified IMO.

It's gone pretty much the way I would have expected Nuno to go. You don't immediately throw away the principles that have yielded 15 months of success based on a few bad results and/or performances, but if the bad results keep coming you need to look at making changes.

I too thought Dendoncker looked good, but he looked good for ten minutes lol. I love how everyone is bigging him up for his cameo where he touched the ball six times.
