Was thinking when everyone was bumming him V Arsenal the other day that he could be possibly one of the most overrated players ever, there's so many better players of the same age, but fair play to West Ham for giving him game time.

I understand the criticisms jwolfie and I would hazard a guess that the criticisms are more around the fact the majority of Wolves fans are ****** off how the pundits cream themselves over 'young British players' because they play for the more 'fashionable' clubs.
The only pundit I have really heard calling for Conor Coady to be called up for the senior England squad has been Ian Wright.

You mean like them creaming themselves over MGW? This victim complex our fans have so so stupid, we are basically media darlings to be honest at this point. Everyone loves us!
Coady's call up is debatable to be honest. Not a scandal he hasn't been.

He's a very good player. Never judge a player on 1 or 2 performances which is what loads of wolves fans did with Jimenez at the world cup when he was written off as rubbish. Look how that turned out

I think our midfield 3 are probably THE BEST 3 in the league, we have a bit of everything in there.!!

Think you’re having a bit of a grin if you think they’re better than Fernandinho + any 2 of the Silvas and De Bruyne.

However, those aside...don't think it’s an exaggeration.

    Agreed. I'd take our midfield over Man Utd's, Arsenal's, Liverpool's and Chelsea's.

I know but they have skills Rice can only dream off. His game is a holding destroyer type and needs more mobility IMO

    Beat me to it...

I agree, tonight wasn't the best game to judge him on. I actually thought he was head and shoulders above the rest of that ****e they call a team - what's the phrase again? A shiny penny in a shovel of ****? But, his passing accuracy was high, he was always looking for that positive ball (which is not easy when you've got a bunch of half-fit, can't-be-arsed millionaires lolling around in the middle of the pitch), he appears to read the game well, is mobile etc. He'll get picked before and above MGW for England, mainly cos he plays for a Laaandan team.

Ultimately, I think West Ham have far worse issues to deal with. How that club is run on a daily basis is beyond me. They are paying Carroll 120k a week, he's down the clubs and ****ed out of his head every weekend, constantly injured, rarely is he "match fit" and even then he plays when he wants, only seems to put an effort in when his contract is coming to an end. You've got the busiest physio room in the whole Premier League in Stratford, far far too many overpaid, overrated, unfit mercenaries who are merely there to take a wage. Sunderland were as bad when they were still up. Look at when Wilshere came available, you just knew he was nailed on for West Ham - and that he would spend half his life on the physio table ****ing 100k a week up the wall.

It really does make me grateful that we are such a well-run club now, we've made and learnt from mistakes, we have a plan, we have a profile of player we want (i.e. a Dendonker, not a Wilshere), we know who we want and even simple things like knowing what position needs fulfilling by whom, and we make the player the centre of the goddamn universe and everything else in the club revolves around them. But, we do this, while reminding them to remain humble - at all times.

Compare Raul with Andy Carroll - his attitude, his value to the cause, his injury record, his all round play, his team ethic, his love for the game, and how he realises his potential. I know who I'd rather spend £30m on, that's for sure...

Off topic, sorry, but we have a long term strategy, and a way of playing and had a game plan last night that was executed to perfection and we made a very ordinary side look like absolute garbage... Not Declan's fault really...

Early days for Rice as it is for our own MGW so no castigating comment from my camp.
They're both learning their trade so will reserve judgement until a few months down the line.

He's decent enough but any comparisons with Neves will always be wide of the mark because despite playing in the same place on the pitch they have very different roles. Rice can destroy the play, he reads the game well and gives it simple, he's very tidy in what he does. Neves, while not as good defensively as Rice, dictates the tempo of a game and carries far more of an attacking threat with his vision and range of passing.

Rice will end up being a good player, but he's very much a defensive one, and doesn't have that bit of magic in his boots that Neves does

Number 36? Didn't think much of him, first time I really noticed him was when he tried to snap Moutinho in half. Don't pay that much attention to the opposition though so maybe he was ok.

Fair point. They thought Almiron looked good as he ran fairly quickly for a bit at one point. He looked like a nailed on flop to me.

I know this sounds daft but I can't resist the metaphors: I saw nothing which made me think he'd set them on fire. Perhaps they've burned their fingers.

Almiron was shocking. The guy by me said he was their record signing so I was expecting big things but the first thing he did was foul Coady, then the next thing he did was trip over the ball.

Even his diving was rubbish. £20 million for a tiny, weak, but slightly quick Paraguayan forward with a semi decent record in the MLS??? Not for me mate. Could be wrong of course, but first impressions weren't great and the defences he will face are levels above.

If he's £20 million, what price Diogo?? I'd stick with Jorge

The way they applauded him on to the pitch, you'd have thought Ronaldo was coming on for them.

Longstaff, the young lad that got his chance for Newcastle due to injury, I thought was there best player by a country mile.
A really mature performance that belied his years.

I disagree with being able to switch after school level.
He's a good you player still learning his game.
Shouldn't be near full international as yet but we chuck em in early these days
