Just raising the price
Usual manager comments
He's off for sure
We've got the two most expensive players in the division at the moment, one of which is widely viewed as one of the best young talents in world football, with a £10m centre half in on loan too.
Some getting carried away on here with there optimism. I`ll always be guarded with Wolves. Been going since the mid 60`s. Slightly alarmed at the lack of game time some of our newbies have done. Get flashbacks of the likes of Doumbia,Bouk,Pizza you know... I`m quietly confident though with Nuno at the helm that we`ll be up there challenging. But lets just see how it all pans out first 10 games.
Not too sure I'd take a great deal of notice of anything he says SFW.
When you consider the budget Rafa had last year in wages to retain a lot of Newcastles players, and their new signings, Wolves are still operating on chicken feed.
It was a gamble for them and a plan that Boro want to emulate but if they fail, their finances are going to go pop. However, I can't see the press giving them a hard time.
To be fair, Newcastle had 50k home crowds to back them whereas Middlesbrough will be lucky to get 20k
They also generated plenty of income via out going transfers.
M'boro are the w***iest club - how they got Negredo there I will never know (actually it was Mendes but even saying Negredo plays for Middlesbrough just don't sound right or good) but they deserve to be where they are now (2nd tier football), if Assombalonga goes there from Forest he's an idiot. I would have him here and him and Dicko would really push each other to score 20 goals each I reckon but if he goes there he'll do no better than at Forest
They're nowhere near as good a club as Newcastle and Sunderland who in my eyes deserve to be in the Prem considering their Stadiums and fan bases
They've won the League Cup, finalists in the Fa Cup and UEFA cup, attracted players like Ravenelli and Juninho. They ain't that w***
Which is not much anyway but them as a club and in comparison to their local rivals they're w*** and one of the teams I really can't stand anyway moving on
Villa had the most expensive team last season
We also spent most by far in 90s it means sweet fa
I'd rather be in Sheffield weds shoes right now having got to playoffs last season, added to squad this summer and still looking to than ourselves
Neves is tremendous talent, but he ain't Messi, he isn't going to be a regular match day winner for us
Having his medical at Boro
Why is Gibson splashing out now? They didn't seem to spend *that* much last season, when you think of what other clubs spent and the PL money, unless I'm forgetting players.
Now, he will have done around £25-30m by mid-July in the Championship, with no real outgoings of note either (yet).
If it means Ben Gibson is going, let's hope it's before the first game of the season!
To add, they look a very strong team and the team to beat IMO, think they'll beat us on the opening day.
They had several players on sky high wages like Negredo, Valdes and Adama though.
True, if I was a Boro fan I'd have wanted this spending last year though.
They look very strong as of now, so fair play to him for that.
I think they've come down with a strong championship squad but to be fair they haven't splashed that much for a recently relegated side.
Assombalonga has effectively replaced Rhodes as his permanent transfer didn't go through until this window.
The other three signings aren't anything too much out the ordinary for a top half championship club nowadays and even those will probably be offset by a sale like Gibson or Traore.
Assombalonga, Braithwiate, Bamford, Gestede and Stuani.
Very decent options at this level.
Bamford. ...you think? Don't like the guy to be honest. Didn't think he was all that good a few years ago either when everyone on here was saying we should go after him
Why is Gibson spending now and not last year ?
Because to buy the best in The Premier League will bust you. But to have all that Premier League money nicely guaranteed for the next three year allows you to buy some very good Championship players.
now forest have sold him forest might come in for dicko and wolves will not have any strikers at all
And if my auntie had two Dicko's she'd be my uncle. Jeez, talk about thinking round corners. Enjoy the sunshine fella
15m, jesus. Would expect a lot, lot more for that sort of cash. Makes Afobe look a bargain.
Mdboro striker options are a different level to ours. Just shows how much work is still needed to be done and minimum of two new strikers needed.
Bamford would be a near regular in our current striker options.
No he wouldn't. He has scored 1 goal in two years at four different clubs.
Bookies have Gibson going to the stripey lot down the road. If he does go, like you, I hope it is before the first game of the season.
Sorry to disagree WATW, but there are still 3 weeks before we play 'Boro which leaves plenty of time for us to recruit at least 2 more high profile players, to put us well in contention with them.
If things continue to progress the way they are doing so far, it will be' Boro who will be on the receiving end of a defeat on the opening day.
I for one feel we're dodging a bullet if we miss out on Assombolonga.
Disagree. He is a better player than Mason. He would walk into our current striking options. Not saying he is great but shows how much work is still needed to be done to improve our striker options.
and me, but not sure why.
Hahaha no chance!!!
The guy has been shown up, the last 2 seasons he has been woeful, 1 thing that proves is he will never cut it in Prem. Not all he's cracked upto be, heard he had a poor attitude at both Norwich and Palace.
How I feel. Can't disagree with anyone who says he's a quality striker at championship level and if the asking price was right certainly worth consideration but the sort of sums being talked about are OTT IMHO. Wherever he ends up or should he stay at Forest dare say he'll do well but his injury issues would always be in the back of my mind.
At last - a fact.
Right up there with Leon Clarke.
Dooh, half way there
Bloody hope so.
There's positivity for ya!!!
They never had the creativity throughout the team in the championship 2015/16 nor did they in the Prem last season- we are not finished in the transfer market yet but even with the team we have now we'd beat Boro.
The beauty of the Championship is that there are always 8-10 teams capable of getting promoted and this season we will be one of them and there's no Newcastle who for me odds on to win the league- there's no outright favourite this season.
In no particular order:
Top 6 at the end of the season 17/18:
Forest and QPR will struggle again and finish mid table, Brentford and Preston won't be as high as last season and JDB will be lucky if he scores 5 goals for Reading.
I'll have a pint (or six) of what he's drinking please barman
That's a huge amount of money for someone who hasn't completed more than half a season and missed an entire season through injury.
7-8m would have been good value for him but not much more
Call it pessimism/ Wolves superstitions, but you know for £10m he'll fire Boro to the Premier League. For us he'd score on his debut, suffer a terrible injury in October and never be seen again for the rest of the season.
