So an article that speculates on Footballers costs & specifically talks about Wolves is not for the football section !!!!!!!!!

    Valid subject.
How will Brexit potentially affect our squad?
Must admit I wouldn't mind some intelligence behind it, thought I got it but now I'm not sure.

Maybe the prices will rocket in the short term, but surely the prices will become more reasonable than they have in the last 10 years if more English players start coming through the academies and playing in the first team? The prices are so high now because of the number of foreign players so if that number is reduced then English players will lose their premium.

Hopefully academies get back to what they are meant for, producing local talent not for buying and stockpiling 16 and 17-year-olds from all over the world then passing them off as homegrown a few years later.

Make sense really if it becomes more difficult to sign cheaper foreign players. Will force teams to invest more in their academies and local scouting though and will even itself out long term. We don't know how long that will take though.

It makes sense what he is saying. Limit the supply and the price will increase with the likelihood the quality will be no better. I'd prefer it go the other way and allow football clubs to bring in young players from around the world as easily as possible.

It is totally. Not a dig at you at all, I just know it will be highjacked and very little football will be talked about.

Truth is that no one knows. It depends what the rules will be.

This is why the current versions of Brexit are so insane. If it's gonna happen, do it properly, plan all the details with each industry, then exit Europe.

It'd take several years but it'd be us out of Europe and with a plan (and maybe new opportunities) as opposed to leaving everyone up the creek.

Wolves and football clubs throughout the UK need clarity as much as any other business.

If you suddenly limit the supply of EU based youngsters, then yes the price of English youngsters will initially increase as clubs have to turn towards them in shorter supply. But in the medium to long term, as more and more English talent is developed out of necessity, their price will fall and the prices for European talent will rise. Supply and demand.

Young English players have seen the light and are moving abroad. Everything we are doing is excellent at the moment. Even getting young Chinese prospects. Our 18 year old star is actually getting game time, sorry for Foden.

Aren't English players already though the roof?

Is the anything any of the governing body's can do to make it easier for premiership teams to get the players they want a work permit?

Current system makes no sense for me, Jonny wouldn't have been able to get one for example.

The biggest problem right now seems to be lack of game time at the top level. It certainly seems like our current crop of teenagers are pretty damn good, but will they get the games they need?

Maybe more restrictions will help them and send more money lower down the leagues, who knows.

English football authorities have been trying for some years to restrict the number of foreign players. Although the squabbling of politicians looking to their own careers rather than the UKs interests, mean we still have no idea what Brexit will be like (if it happens), the FA will be hoping to cut the number of foreign players if they can. Blaming Brexit for what they know will be unpopular with fans would be a bonus for them.
until the future procedures are agreed no one can know for sure.

It’s a big ol can of worms (just talking football).
Way I see it, is that the English leagues would be relatively unaffected, in isolation, if numbers of foreign players were limited.
As in, the premier league would remain semi-competitive, with the big clubs having a major advantage with the bigger and better academies, and the spending power to skim the cream of talent.

BUT. It would dilute the ‘premier league brand’, there would be fewer overall top class players, performance in UCL would drop meaning even fewer top players, while the other European giants wrest the advantage with continuing freedom of movement.
Does serie A or la Liga then become the revenue and broadcasting super-power? Seems likely in that scenario.

So, I reckon whatever rules are initially proposed....the prem has too much riding on the status quo being maintained, and will grease enough wheels and create enough loopholes to do so.
