Alan Hudson who went from Chelsea to Stoke, where he was quite superb.
Peter Knowles but we could not match his release fee from the Jehovah's witnesses.
Yep, Wolves 3 Man U 1, 28 September 1957. The day before my birthday -- it was probably a treat from my Dad, as at that age he didn't take me to every home match.
If a dad takes his son these days it is a punishment not a treat
Alan Nielson from Spurs he went to Watford instead he was a good player. Really liked him on loan.
Prem season first time
There was a few more in sure we was close to
Dann under mick and long
Being left footed I admire left wingers and wish we'd have gone for Matthew Etherington whilst at Peterborough. Bobby Convey at Reading too and Peter Whittingham.
I'd take Aden Flint at CB now. I've seen him at Alfreton, Swindon and Bristol City his goal ratio is brilliant for a CB.
That Flint looks a big lad on the pitch
I really liked Mendonca too. I remember BBC doing a thing about 10 years ago where fans of all the current 92 sides voted for their top 3 best ever players. I'm pretty sure Mendonca was the only player to get into two teams top three (Grimsby & Charlton).
Ashley Williams, back when Swansea were in the championship. I think it was the season we got promoted with Mad Mick.
Cherno Samba and Freddy Adu
Surman did play for us i think
Remember it well, we bought his midfield partner, Roger Eli, instead.
Peter Shilton who was available for about 200K in about 1974 from Leicester. He went to bloody Stoke!
Another one is Derek Statham who went to St Edmunds School and played for Wolverhampton Schools. He apparently had a very decent career somewhere else.
I might be wrong but didn't he go to St Chad's ?
Knew him only through a mate who also played for Wolverhampton Schools - and it was a long time ago. You may well be right. It was definitely a Catholic school.
He came from Low Hill if I remember correctly and St Chad's was just round the corner .
Fair enough - makes sense!
Incredible goals to games ratio for Wolves wingers in the 50s & early 60s (Deeley, Hancock, Mullen, Wharton, Hinton).
Not one I ever considered would join us but I remember when we got promoted to the PL in 2003 the headlines about us being about to sign Baggio. I almost pooed myself with excitement until I realised it was Dino not Roberto!
Paul Merson. Always wanted him at Wolves and what a player he was for Pompey. Also wanted Paul Walsh when he was at Pompey. He always played really well against us. Anyone else remember Jamie Pollock? Another player I would have liked in our midfield back in the 90's. Always used to like Steve Stone as well.
Bit of a one-season wonder. That was a bit earlier I think, because his missus was a teacher at my school when I was about 6 or 7. Very large bristols! Even at that tender age I was impressed!
He brought my house a few years ago was such a nice bloke and his Mrs was a lovely too. Told me he had a big bust up with Cullis after being spotted having a few beers too many one night and there was only one winner there!
56/57 19 goals in 39 games not bad!
Paul Walsh was awesome in the early 1980's. I am sure he absolutely destroyed us down the molineux in one game but I am not sure if he was at Luton or Liverpool at the time.
Yes, he was a very good player. People wondered at the time why he was suddenly sold after starting with such a bang. In those long-gone days before the 24/7 news saturation we have now, things like that just happened at the club without any explanation sought or given. What you have said about him being caught boozing by Cullis -- that didn't come out at the time, I don't think. News to me!
Had a few lovely chats with him during the time they were buying our house. He signed my Wolves book that has all the games/players/scorers in as there is a picture of him at the bottom of page covering 56/7.
Always remember him telling me that he was on a hat-trick and had his penalty saved by Nat Lofthouse! I said how come he aint a keeper and Harry told me he was in the second half of that game. They moved from Mersea to North Norfolk a while ago with their daughter.
Before he moved to Brentford there was talk of Scott Hogan. It should have been a no brainer.
This was the one I wanted and if we'd got Peter Reid as well, we'd have had a hell of a team. Barnwell and Barker knew what they were doing. Exciting times and then the car crash followed by our crash.
Bit of a bump this..but has always wondered why we didn´t sign Derek Statham back in the days?
Ray Parlour. Knew we would never get him but thought he was so underrated when I was a kid.
Shearer and gazza .
Any of the Championship Manager legends.
Kim Kallstrom, Cherno Samba, Maxim Tsigalko, Stefan Selakovic, Tonton Zola Moukoko, Mark Kerr and Kevin Hofland to name a few.
Always been obsessed with foreign football since the early 90s, and there have been so many players I've wished Wolves could have got hold of. Some realistic, others not so much. I could write 20 pages full, but here are a few:
Marco Di Vaio
Antonio Di Natale
Current player: Luka Zahovic, Maribor.
That is a great answer!
I'll go with Cantona, a mercurial genius
Any chance we can find some old thread and bump it ??
I always wanted the other 10 Gary Breens
