Obviously I mean in a realistic sense.

What one player and during what time, did you want Wolves to sign? Perhaps to fill a glaringly obvious void, or purely because you always rated them as a player.

Mine would be Neil Redfearn. I always liked him during his Barnsley days. A rock solid, goal scoring midfielder with a great set piece.

I also hated playing against David Johnson. He was an eternal nuisance, and a quality striker at this level.

    Kevin Phillips

Crouch and Shawcross still in the maybe one day as well (maybe less realistic with the latter).

Andrew Surman believe it or not.

I'd perhaps unrealistically be all over Sigurdsson when you go up. Fantastic player.

I always wanted us to sign Dean Yates and Mark Draper from Notts County, and Nigel Martyn from. Bristol Rovers.

Nathaniel Chalobah. Saw him absolutely run the game against us as an 18-year old on loan at Watford and kept on about him every transfer window after that.

The Neil Redfearn, Mark Draper and Nigel Martyn shouts are great ones. Remember Martyn giving the best goalkeeping performance I've ever seen against us for Bristol Rovers. Was desperate to sign him after that.

A few years ago, my Dad kept banging on about a young striker at Bournemouth and was adamant we should sign him before he moved onto bigger and better things. Turns out it was Danny Ings and Burnley signed him a couple of years later.

I think most of mine are from the 90s and have already been mentioned, Mark Draper, David Johnson, Craig Hignett. I'd also add Neil Lennon to that, I know Graham Taylor had him scouted on numerous occasions and had a Thelwell-esque dossier on him but never pulled the trigger.

    Some great shouts so far.

Rob Earnshaw during his Cardiff days was always someone who impressed me. We used to buy 'The Pink' on the way home and check the scores. I swear Earnshaw got at least a brace every week! That hat trick record he has of scoring at all levels really is incredible too.

Despite his history with us now, i really wanted Danny Murphy when he was at Crewe as well.

Joey Beauchamp was a really good winger, he just didnt want to leave Oxford and couldnt settle when he did.

The one player we came really, really close to signing who i think would have made a massive difference to our club was Sami Hyppia.

Oooh good thread ...... Many of the players that annoyed us in the 90's would have been great as a spine to our team - Steve Walsh, Paul Dickov, Kevin Phillips, there was also the Man City guy Ali Bernabia in the early 2000s, Louis Saha from Fulham's promotion winning season too.

Dean Ashton for me. He was a great striker. A shame he was curtailed before be could really achieve something.

Steve Sidwell in the middle during his pomp would've been a fantastic option too.

Ali Berbarbia was one of the best players I've ever seen at Molineux. Incredible player.

The rest were mostly linked with us at some point. We seemed to be after Beauchamp for ages, dodged a bullet though! Draper and Yates were definitely targets as well.

Do I remember rightly that we could have had Barry and hendrie from villa? I remember rumours about it and that I wouldn't have minded signing them.

Rumours at the time were Robbie Savage & Muzzy Izzit from Leicester if we'd have got promoted & they went down or whatever it was. Naturally never happened.

I've recently felt like we've missed a Chris Brunt or Charlie Adam in the middle.

Bobby Zamora, I remember seeing him in his first season for Brighton and thought he was the closest striker to Bully I had seen. Every time we played then he always seemed to score.

Darren Beckford and Robbie Earle when they were both at Port Vale. There was also a midfielder who played for Bury think is name was Jamie Hoyland, he looked a good player. Have to agree about Nigel Martin that was the best performance I have seen live until Peter ******* Shilton for Bolton

Tony Naylor.(Crewe & Vale). Very cool finisher in the 90s. Might have been a good replacement when Mutchy left us.

More recently, felt like Nakhi Wells would do, ahem, well here. Always loved Knockaert's footballing ability but not sure it's ever been realistic.

Back in the days when we lived for scraping Premier League survival I always thought Craig Gardner would be a good signing. Believe we were linked with him for a bit, but he went elsewhere for better money.

Another vote for Huddleston. And I know he got injured before he could properly show what he could do but I think frimpong would have been a very important signing and he seemed to genuinely want to come and play for us.

    Two players from different eras:

Duncan Edwards. Born and bred in Dudley, and Wolves were watching him as a kid but never made an approach as far as I know. He joined Man U in 1952 and was one of the Busby Babes, tragically killed in the Munich air-crash. Brilliant mid-fielder. Add him to the mix at Molineux of that time (we already had Ron Flowers, Billy Wright, Bill Slater and Eddie Clamp in midfield) and we would have been totally unstoppable. Cullis and his scouts missed out here.

Francis Lee. He was about to join Wolves from Bolton in 1967 but changed his mind at the last minute and went to Man City instead. The rest is history! He might have made the difference to that 70s team -- imagine him on the right wing and Waggy on the left!
