Very ****ed off but I think there is hope for the future. The team is generally young and I think in 4 years time we will be serious challengers.

We should have finished the game in the first half and it came back to haunt us. We lost the midfield in the second half and Alli needed replacing. I don’t think we have anyone good enough to bring on for him though, so I can forgive Southgate for not taking him off. Young on the other hand was a complete liability throughout and shouldn’t have even started.

All things considered, I think and hope that in 4 years time we will be much stronger. Hopefully some decent central midfielders will be around by then, and if they are, we have a great chance of winning it.

Final point, I thought the ref was diabolical and a complete cheat. He let those dirty *******s get away with murder. How did that arsehole right winger not get booked until extra time?!?! Disgrace.

Don’t agree. I don’t think it was tactical ineptitude at all. Lack of quality more like.

We had chances to put the game out of reach (Kane and Lingard) ... they don’t come if you’re defending.

The brutal truth is that we weren’t quite good enough. We ran out of steam second half, became leggy, couldn’t keep possession and became increasingly sloppy.

The team has overachieved. But they have done us more than proud.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll see a better chance to win the World Cup in my life time. Gutted.

We didn’t lose control of the game because Croatia well Modric or Rakatic stepped it up, we lost because we just sat back we stopped passing it out. Not once second half did we pass to feet or find an outlet. Ball over the top constantly to nobody.

We didn’t have a plan B which we needed because you didn’t have the quality in depth to keep playing the same way.

All very well to say we’lol be better in 4 years time but do too will Germany, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Holland. This was our golden chance, 1-0 up in a WC semi final and 2nd half/ extra time we reverted to the England of old.

If Wolves has performed like that in a FA cup semi final we would have been mortified. We should have been 2/3-0 up at half time - game over. 2nd half not good. Both goals avoidable and Stone should be pilloried for the defending on the 2nd - a nothing ball that any championship defender would be embarrassed to defend as he did.

Kane didn’tbshow uk, neither did Lingarf or Ali. rash Ford was completely the wrong change for Sterling as he allowed the Croatians to focus a n going forward.

On a positive I thought Vida looked Croatia’s best defender whereas Lovren was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Third international semi final and we don’t sem t learn although I would say our performance was better in 1990 and 1996.

They should be proud of getting as far as they did.
I just felt that RLC should have come on instead of Dier and before the end of the 90 mins.

Great mentality; likeable team and manager, but at the end of the day they had the easiest run of fixtures that probably will ever come up again - Panama, Tunisia, Belgium Reserves, Colombia, Sweden and Croatia.

Such a great opportunity to have got to a final.

Plenty to work on for 2020 which is effectively a home tournament.

If Alli, lingard ,sterling and rashford can kick on the future is bright.

No point in what ifs -we would have been rank outsiders against france in the final.

Very pleased, to get to a World Cup semi, with a pretty average bunch of players is a great achievement, we just lack a bit of quality, that world class player that can turn the game. Had we taken our chances first half, we’d be looking forward to Sunday, but Croatia are technically better than us. I think our game is going to the right way, however there are still to many gerrit forward merchants in grassroots football.

Think France would probably have been a step too far, but Croatia were all over the place first half and as many have said, it was a golden opportunity to reach a World Cup Final. To then sit deep and just hit long balls was something we hadn’t done all tournament. Can’t help but be a little disappointed that we reverted to negative football after such a bright start. Unlike the 2 semifinal losses to Germany which could have gone either way, we didn’t deserve anything on that second half display. Will we have a better chance to reach a final in my lifetime? I am not sure.

I’m old enough to have seen us win the Cup in 66 (thankfully), this was our best chance in donkeys years to at least get to the final but we totally blew it. Yes it’s a young team, yes nobody expected us to get that far but you have to admit we did have an easier route and combined with that all the fancied teams going out - I can’t see those ducks lining up like that again any time soon. So I genuinely don’t think I’ll get to see us win the World Cup again in my lifetime - this year was our chance and we mucked it up.

I'm quite upset. I just don't get this 'plucky loser' *******s that I'm hearing. Croatia were there for the taking. A Kyle Walker slip and a growing midfield absence lost us that game. The first I can forgive but the latter was poor game management by Southgate. Maybe I'm being a **** but we shouldn't have lost that, as Croatia were nothing special.

Tad harsh- in 2016 france were the up and comers and lost on pens to portugal in the final. Two years later they see out a tricky semi against les belges and will almost certainly win on sunday.

Have to take it step by step.

Game of two halves for me,scored too early whilst we were on top,and players thinking its coming home.Never mind at least we can stay in Switzerland now and don't have to worry about trying to get an earlier flight back home.I would have preferred to be coming home early though.:(

Always building for the future... sounds like a post from the moxey/ morgan era reeking of failure with the pot of gold that never materialises. If you think we are likely to play the likes of Sweden who have championship players in their starting 11 to reach the last 4 in a world cup again you're deluded.

The manager needs to grow with the players.Whilst the formation was correct we were perhaps too open when our opponents revived in the second half. All a bit too naive .

Loftus cheek would have been an enromous difference for Alli and we may have had more opportunities to get our foot on the ball with his physical presence

I think we did bottle it, we dropped deep at the start of the 2nd half which was an obvious instruction at half time, rather than them taking hold of the midfield, we handed it to them on a plate. We should have gone at them again at the start of the 2nd half, they have some good players but aren't a great team, Vida in particular was an absolute mess in the first half whenever anyone went near him, then we put him under no pressure second half. Plus their keeper could barely clear his own box with his kicks so clearly wasn't fit but didn't have a save to make for 1hr and half.

Not going to be a popular view but I think Southgate is very limited as a manager. Things largely fell into place for him and the tournament opened up beautifully for us. We had a great chance and we blew it. Those poxy unnecessary backpasses were seriously ****ing me off and I'm pretty sure that if we wind the clock back 30 seconds or so before their 2nd goal that we lost possession after Pickford booted it out after being put under needless pressure from one of thoise completely unnecessary backpasses. The England team as it played tonight would not survive in the Premier league IMO.

Bottled it in a big test, never on it, it’s a shambles. But no doubt the English press will **** themselves silly over getting this far when frankly to bottle it now, is a mess.

I think, for me, the pride thing is not quite there as I am still disappointed. That midfield was totally overrun - as it was with Tunisia second half and Columbia. Ali and lingard are like stevie g and fat frank - they are too similar and can’t play together. That was so obvious to little old me but Southgate was too loyal and refused to change it when we were being completely overrun in the middle of the park. I think if he changed it we could have won. And for that I am seriously disappointed. And I think Gareth should be too.

But I don’t think we did. We let them overrun out midfield and Southgate did nothing about it. We are better than Croatia. We should be winning that game.
