Douglas takes a throw near our corner flag and 21 seconds later it’s in the net! All one touch, fast paced, superb football. Looking very promising!

First half we played a sort of hybrid under 21 mix with first team. Ryan Giles was the standout performer of the match. So comfortable and gave them loads of trouble. The marking for the first goal was absolutely shocking and whether that was down to all of the young lads in the team or Batth and Ruddy not getting a grip of them I’m not sure. Mir scored a ridiculously tight finish and most of us stood where we were didn’t think he knew too much about it when it went in. I think it took him by surprise.

Second half was all the normal first team starters pretty much with Norris the exception. It was comfortable and routine. Nice goal, opened them up a few other times but couldn’t take advantage. They probably should have pinched a late equaliser but the man mountain Willy Boly was there to clear the ball off the line with a sliding stop. All in all a great away day that will live long in the memory. The fans made it for me even though the football was pretty routine, lovely setting and good fun. Thanks for making the trip worthwhile everyone that was there.

I'm glad we have kept him. We need a Dave Edwards like figure. Saves most of the rest of the team from getting too much flak.
On the other hand I still await Poole Wolf to give directions on who to concentrate on.

I miss Lambert myself. I hope he gets another job soon.
I've been working on a repertoire of Dortmund jokes since May.

It looks more like he has been on the pies to me. Impossible to bulk up with muscle mas like that in 6 weeks unless you been on the roids.

No: the inept one has gone along with McCarthic, quite relaxed now anti-football is over.

Like Shakespeare's writings, every word in this will be pored over, scrutinized, analysed, loved, and enjoyed.

I hope Costa doesn't get injured loads now. I've noticed when players pack on muscle quickly they end up picking up loads of injuries because their body isn't used to it.

Lucky deflection with Doc's ball but it was a great goal and deserved the luck.

It's possible. Particularly on players who had a light frame to begin with. Just a few extra pounds of muscle will look noticeable.

On a slightly related note, I was speaking with what, journalists would call, 'someone with knowledge of the matter' about Jota. He told me Jota is a physical freak. A ridiculous power to weight ratio, incredibly strong body strength from a small frame. The person who told me this has worked with lots of athletes and he said Jota is an outlier in terms of how strong he is for his frame. So in his case he'd have no need to add any extra muscle at all.

I remember playing a game against Kevin Davis when he was maybe 15 (I know for certain he wasn't 16). He wasn't big by any stretch of the imagination but he turned in to me and winded me without even trying. He was able to shield the ball from full grown men and it was them who were hitting the deck. Some folks just seem to have natural, genetic strength and others, like Helder, need to work at it.

I think he'll struggle to keep that extra bulk personally. He'll lose it almost by accident when the cardio of the season gets going.

A few observations from the game (watched on WolvesTV):

    - Giles looks like a quality player with a big future. Got caught out of position a couple of times but looked great going forward; pacy, skillful and direct.
    - With the exception of Benny Ashley-Seal (who struggled a bit), the other youngsters also looked OK. Never heard of Watt before we travelled to Switzerland but he looked decent.
    - Cav easily the standout first-half. Can't wait to see him unleashed on the Premier League.
    - For so early in pre-season we look so comfortable in our system, even the youngsters who will have barely played in it. Shows how good our coaching staff is.
    - 2nd half was very controlled without breaking a sweat. The football for our second goal was excellent.
    - As others have said, Helder Costa has returned looking like an absolute monster. With a full pre-season under his belt he'll be some player for us in the Premier League.
    - We got exposed two or three times in defence, particularly in the area around RWB - RCM - RCB, which is no doubt something our analysts will have spotted.
    - Boly's recovery clearance was outstanding.
    - Our kit looks great!

Early days but a very decent base to build from.

I think Costa bulked up while he was injured, he looked noticeably bigger last season than he did the previous season, so I don't think it's a 6 week thing.

Mir scoring is a good sign. When he joined he was literally miles off the pace but you never onow. He might come good

All the players are weighed when they go on their holidays and again on their return. In between they are given a fitness and dietary regime plan so I doubt any player would report back full of pies and having sat on their settee all Summer.
I understand many of the foreign players have regularly attended the club during the close season to keep in trim.

It was great to see how easily the players slipped back into playing in the Wolves "identity" that Nuno talks about

I saw a different player yesterday, yes it was a friendly but he linked up the play nicely and looked a threat

Good points Julius especially about keeping muscle mass if newly acquired and upping upping aerobic work.
Gaining muscle mass can be relatively quick for a few pounds of initial gains, or if replacing mass that has previously been lost. Where the more ectomorphic mesomorphs suffer is in maintaining it. They typically need a diet that can be hard to stick, loads of recovery time and rest and reduced aerobic work. Difficult for a young footballer. But, at the start of each season he may make keeping the gains a bit easier.

My verdict: The round collar on Basel's Adidas shirt is much worse looking than ours.
