Betting companies live off greedy idiots.
St Chads College, Fallings Park, Wolv (in my day - now Our Lady & St. Chad Academy). Hopefully someone in the know can confirm this once and for all!
I would love one of strips from the 50s
With who globally we thought we’d encourage who was instantly recognisable this seems like a ‘moxey’ or more recently a ‘Thelwell’ project....
Top draw names are the target
Relatively unknown business secured
Imagine the uproar had Jez pulled this out the hat given our potential
that post makes no sense at all
Very clever including our points total for next season in the sponsor name Wolves - 88
Credit to Laurie and the club for insisting on a black sponsors logo too. They really are listening to the fans
I went to St Chads and my nan was a friend of Jimmy's. She took me to his shop in Broad Street as a young lad to get my first pair of boots...fitted by a legend!
It’s our biggest ever sponsorship deal would you rather had a well known company paying less? I think I’ll trust Laurie and Jeff over you thanks.
That you, Jez?
What’s wrong with gambling or drinking?
Nothing, people always seem to find something to moan about...
Snap. But with my mom not your nan
I would assume they meant: we should have been expecting a huge, already established household name as sponsor given the direction we're going. To have an as yet unknown reeks of Moxeyism.
However, I'm going to completely disagree.
W88 were obviously happy to fork out enough cash to make it a record amount. They also agreed to change colours.
A bigger name may not have wanted us, and would be less likely to change colour.
What we've ended up with is a sponsor that perfectly matches the shirt and club aesthetically, and a big wad of cash.
Exactly what we need to drive off-the-pitch success. Fosun don't give a rat's ass whether W88 benefit from the deal. They got everything they wanted.
Not sure if it's been announced or discussed but I believe Blyth are sponsoring the youth teams. No gambling sponsors for youth teams I think.
Tell me about it, shame it couldn’t be this or that, were a football club not a Chruch Hall Scouts Group.
Imagine walking into your local club & asking them to stop people playing cards, pool killer & to give you a J2O.
Be honest. Did you go “oh them! I know who they are” when it was revealed
Just a bit ‘meh’ isn’t it after the names banded about. Had you heard of them??
We expected big names... we got......someone who was happy to change the colour to black to suit our kit!
Sign em up!!
Nope. I didn't care who they were, just that it was tasteful and would be made to look good on a shirt.
Far as I know, I don't think anyone has chosen to buy a shirt because they like or recognise the sponsor itself.
Many choose not to buy, why when it doesn’t matter
But the question is how many in Asia will have heard of William hill or Stan James !!
I’d love to swap with the Albion and have a huge ‘ideal boilers’ logo!!
Next question!! Wouldn’t a big online gambling website get more hits a day than say club med etc , also wouldn’t someone on a casino or sports book site be more inclined to sit up and notice us rather than someone looking for a luxury holiday ? It is all about lifting our global appeal after all ..
Here we gew.
Absolutely. Also, the fact that it means two big W’s on the front, and ‘88 is the year we won the Sherpa Van, means the sponsors logo actually has some relevance to the club and fans.
Nothing, in moderation, like most things I suppose. I also don't think that seeing ads for those things lead to much higher consumption or use of them either, just brand switching for the most part I'd have thought? I'm not a big fan of all the betting ads saturating the advert breaks during the football though, seems like they're trying to take advantage of people having had a few and being more disinhibitted? Maybe not. They're both very different to payday loan firms though - whereas some people become miserable due to booze and gambling problems whilst the majority enjoy them, most people who use these loan companies would prefer they didn't have to and were either paid better or had recourse to fairer loans (like community credit companies).
The kit looks okay BTW but are we sure that's the sponsor? I've seen another supposed 'leak' today and that featured a different sponsor?
And now I’ve reread your post I get it.
Love the shirt, will definitely buy one if available as a training top without sponsor's logo.
Yes. We are sure.
Same here, on both points. And the last shirt I bought was the Nutmeg one. I might get myself a trackie top if they're not overly elaborate and have the 3 stripes. Southend seafront watch out, the Wolves are in town!
Similar to wear round Llandudno, never wear for a game but love one for leisure and cycling.
First time I saw it it reminded me of my first away game a 1-0 win courtesy of bully at turf moor and for what felt like the whole fame hearing us singing Wembley 88 Wembley Wembley 88
Indeed they did. My old man left home and joined the RAF aged 14.
Has anyone else seen this monstrosity?

what the hell is that?
love the 'Renford Rejects' in the comments on there.
That was my first “unaccompanied by my dad” away game!
Burnley fans chanting Bull ****, Bull **** at our number 9 just before he headed the winner
Bizarre post for a number of reasons but mainly I’m wondering why you think a shirt sponsor could have anything to do with Kevin Thelwell?
Earlier memories of Turf Moor, the only ground I managed to get kicked out of twice in one game.
I’m glad you’ve mellowed as you’ve got older
