Ebanks Landell 3 1/2 years and Batth 4 years also.

I'd have extended Batths by two years but at the very most I'd have given EEL 18 months with a years option given he's only proving himself in League One. Edwards has earned his deal this season but I'd have given him 18 months given he'll be 31 in February, as it stands he'll be 33 1/2 when his contract ends. I'd say ikemes deal is spot on in terms of his age and ability.

Without getting into debate on their ability you have to admit that the contract lengths have been excessive? Of the four I was only surprised by EEL getting an extension. I expected all of them to remain but not for the lengths they now are. It's as if someone at the club is playing football manager lobbing massive contracts around like confetti.

Spot on, I couldn't agree more.

It was rushed, some signing were poorly thought out and mistakes were made but they had 7 weeks from takeover to window shutting. I don't think anyone could learn the intricacies of running a football club in 7 weeks! When you add in losing Jez and Jackett, it was an incredible amount of change to cram into such a small space of time.

I think Fosun will go again in the summer and give Lambert what he wants but there is little point now. We have a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season and Lambert will have had a proper opportunity to assess those that are left and build the squad with time and care over the summer to compete next year.

Yes, Boris, I agree that spending 14 million unwisely could yield very little positive outcome. Spending it carefully and wisely could have transformed a club like wolves. In reality, the spending last summer was an impulsive splurge, which so far can only be seen to have delivered two really decent players. There is still time to see if any of the others will work out.

I agree, I think people are being incredibly harsh on FOSUN regards the summer, but I am a bit disappointed with the lack of activity this window, even if was to bring in one key player like Marshall.

Well, I'm not sure about excessive. I would have characterised it more as simply unusual for Wolves - perhaps a new policy, breaking with recent practice. Perhaps the new policy has been more thoroughly thought-through for the long-term? (Shock Horror!) I'm no expert on sports business, but I would think that a player with a longer contract would command a bigger transfer fee than one on a shorter contract. So, suppose we don't get promoted this season, as seems likely, but we do next. Players like DB (and maybe EEL) would likely be put on the market at that point (if not before) since they would clearly not be suited to the PL. But if you had extended DB by 2 years now, he would have only 6 months left at that point, and would probably just sit around until his 2 years were up and then move away on a free. With 2.5 years still on his contract at that point, he would command a good re-sale value to a lower Champ club or even L1. Factor-in the possibility that it takes 2 more seasons before we are in that position, not just one, and the 4 years/3.5 years that current players are getting looks like shrewd business to me, planning for an orderly transition when we get promoted, with assets retaining good sell-on value at that point in time.

We are going to lose Costa so let's asses the wing situation in the summer when Wallace and Henry possibly leave

Keeper for back up not convinced Lonergan is going to play much longer he's getting on now 33 he doesn't cross me as someone that will play until he's 40

Midfield I don't know we are overcrowded but PL is giving everyone a chance and we have Ronan and Gibbo coming through...

Striker is a key area that needs strengthening

    Dicko, Bod, Gladon, Mason, Enobakhare

None of those above have done it id only want to keep 3 at the most I think Dicko and Gladon maybe need loan moves to get their confidence up

Full back and a centre half would be nice but can't see much happening unless we get Marshall or until the summer when Stears goes back

So to conclude PL has a hard job on his hands

Seems fair bit of talk of players leaving so hoping that if a few leave it will allow PL to move some in but for now all very quiet and disappointing.

If we don't get a striker in the writing is on the wall for a relegation battle.

Weird how circumstances have changed in just a few weeks. Literally a few days before the window opened, we needed 2-3 signings. Now we don't need any. I'm sick of PL's ********, even if he is a decent manager. Don't make false promises to fans.

All the talk coming out of the clubs paints us in such a positive light it's unreal. We're five points off the bottom three ffs. Yes performances have improved but results haven't improved a great deal and we still need to "2 or 3" that Lambert has banged on about since he joined.

Its a fair point on the PR. Don't say anything if you're not prepared to back it up with positive action. Still a couple of weeks to go so I'm not panicking yet but it's shaping up to be one hell of a busy deadline day if all the things the club have said are going to happen this window. Ins and outs

    leaving now or the summer...

Wallace, Silvio, Stearman, Ola John, Costa, CBJ, Tex, Gladon

    Most are loans

    Williamson out of contract?
    Saville out of contract?
    Lee Evans out of contract?

According to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/startseite/verein/543 anyway click on players to see when their deals end think they are the only three so be interesting to see if we offer new deals or not

This is what I think too. We have been buoyed by the cup win. Everything seems rosy, but its not! We cant keep relying on our non strikers to score the goals and keep us from the drop.

They also said "we have plans for most of the players we want to move out" if I remember correctly. Doesn't seem that way yet.

I wonder what the reaction would have been on here if Stoke had turned us over?.Yes we have had an upturn but our improvement is built on sand and not rock because we know our defence is still shaky and our strikers couldn't score in a brothel.

    no!

Shi - carries the can for some poor early decisions
Manager - We've now appointed a manager with the right experience of the league & what it takes to get promoted
Ambition - I still think our owners are in it for the long haul & have a long term plan, they want us to go up, the sooner the better but patience is needed.
Realism - Jeff knows he made some naive decisions in the summer & the club didn't recruit well, it will take time to sort it out
Transfers - We HAVE to get the right players in who are up to what is required for this division without wasting large amounts of money.

Have to agree. A couple of weeks ago we needed two or three experienced quality players. Now nothing! So much for being ready to get new signings in when the window opened as others have already done. Very disappointing in my opinion. Thelwell's dossiers in overdrive!

Defeat on Saturday and always the possibility that gap is less than five points! I sense too much complacency.

I am pretty sure there were comments along those lines. We don't appear to be using Mendes anymore, at present. Really cant understand why. He has delivered us Costa and Cavaleiro. Thelwell will probably find Dexter Blackstock in his dossiers!

Some of the recent posts on this thread and others seem to be a little excessively negative. Management said right from the start that we needed to ship 5-6 out before anyone can come in, and then it would only be 2-3. That made good sense to all observers, I think. Let's look at the window so far: summarising as best I can our Jan business to date (correct me if I missed someone, or wrongly assign it to this window) I see:

James Henry loan extended until end of season
EEL loan extended to end of season (together with contract extension for 3.5 years)
    CBJ back to MU
Ola John probably out to Deportivo

So, that's two loans out extended and two loans in, sent back. Could say half way to our planned 5-6 out after a little under 2 weeks. Not bad, and probably going to plan. We've apparently (according to the rumours) been sniffing around to buy a few players, but nothing yet.

Personally, if I were going to negotiate to buy, I would not publicly say I am desperately seeking to buy in this window. Then the price just goes up. I would calmly say I'm not that interested, but if you want to sell, I'll offer you £whatever. But no panic, we're in no hurry. Right before the end of the transfer window, cash-strapped clubs may drop their prices (ones desperate to buy may raise their offers). It is a complex game. All the comments and appearances that we are not that interested in buying is just misdirection - hence PL's apparent change of heart as the window opened. Smoke and mirrors if you like. The real negotiations are going along quietly behind the scenes. When we eventually buy, if it is the first we have heard of the deal, then the club will have done it's business properly. If it's heavily trailed in the press beforehand, we've probably done a poor job of keeping it discrete and will probably have ended-up paying over the odds. Frustrating for fans, but it is the right way to do it.

I would rather we signed noone than more dross. The club need to move on some of the squad - CBJ gone, Ebanks continuing at Sheff U along with Henry at Bolton, Ola John seemingly on his way. Presumably Gladon and Tex will disappear also. Sivio injured so will stay. Wallace would be attractive to a Div 1 team and expect him to be loaned out. Had hoped to see the back of Saville but that may bot happen. But Evans needs a clear path now and Ronan too. Price and Edwards are current favourites while Prince has to fight for a place and Saiss obviously away. Its a bad time to buy, the club want to thin the squad, nothing will happen. And certainly we should wait for the summer for Marshall if he is deemed by Lambert as an addition he wants. We need to make a decisive bid for a decent striker at some point but I expect that will be next summer, not now. Only five points from the relegation places, I hope Lambert and Thelwell realise how quickly we could get down to the bottom again if we are unlucky with injuries or lose the bright glimmer of form (but few points). One decent performance at Stoke and there seems to be a collective amnesia on the terrible season that has left us (just) in 16th place. Sam Gallagher for £5-6 million (guess) would be my key signing target if he can be extracted from his Blackburn loan. But if the club are intent upon trying to get a cut-price striker for £1m/£1.5m or so then what a bloody waste of time.

There's an entire thread on FFP and it's explained on there as to why the club should not be hiding behind that. I'm not going to repeat it and I'm sure a helpful soul will post a link for you.

Ive been thinking this all the time. We are in 16th place, a few points off the relegation zone and our strikers havent scored since August. Yet 1 good win in the cup and everybody now seems to be nice and chilled.

What happened to doing our business early and bringing in 1 or 2 to "help"? There are some positive signs but we need to see an improvement over a period of time. What happens to the mood if Villa hand our ass to us on Saturday.
