  2. Hi Mike, as a kid growing up watching Wolves in the early 1990's, you were my favourite player and absolute Wolves hero. You hold the appearance record for Wolves goalkeepers, so which game was the most memorable for you and why?

Would you like to return to the club in some capacity in the future?

Which centre half you played behind gave you the most confidence as a goalkeeper?

I thought we had some exceptionally good players during your time at the club, why do you think we could never quite reach the Premier League during that era despite some desperately near misses?

Just before the start of the 1993/94 season a new Wolves magazine was released in the shops and I clearly remember one article on Wolves goalkeepers from different periods in our history and when discussing Paul Bradshaw it stated that had he been born in a different era when there weren't so many great English goalkeepers that he would surely have played for England. I remember thinking at the time that at some point in the future we could be saying that about Mike Stowell and seeing as England have included some goalkeepers in their squads in recent times who have barely played a game for their clubs, I think I was probably right. What do you think of England's current goalkeeping situation?

Sorry if that's a bit much, was a massive Stowell fan as a kid!

Mike, was there ever any real chance that you'd have signed for Everton (seem to recall there'd been rumours)

I remember you being called up for the england B squad for a game (can't remember against who) but you didn't get to play which was a shame. What was the experience like for you & did you think you'd get more chances within the national set up?

You were an outstanding goalkeeper, and one of my favourite players as a kid, how do you remember your time at Wolves?

You were part of the Wolves side in the 1990's which came close to reaching the Premier League, but never made it. How frustrating was that for you, and did you feel that the team you played with in those days was good enough for the top level?

As a goalkeeper and now a goalkeeper coach, do you feel that the role of the keeper has changed over the last decade or so, in the sense that more goalkeepers need to be comfortable with the ball to feet, as part of a more possession based game?

No, you`re right we did get him from Everton. Just knew there was some connection there & that he`s stated that his hero was Neville Southall. :embarassed:

Happy to be corrected by a fellow poster unlike someone I could mention

You spent a spell as joint (caretaker) manager a year or so back, is that something you`d like to do again in a more permanent capacity?

Mike, it's easy to ask attacking players to elaborate on their favourite games or certainly guess what they could have been but not so obvious for GK's, so what was your favourite game in the Wolves shirt or if you don't have one what was your favourite memory of your time here?

I remember a truly world class save you pulled off against Bolton at home on a very wet day ( can't remember the year sorry! We won one nil though ) and its my favourite save of yours. What is your favourite or best save of your career.

My favourite Micky Stowell save was on the first home game of the 94/95 season (I think) against Reading, and Simon Osborn bent a superb shot with the outside of his right foot into the top corner, ran off to start his celebrating only to see Micky pull off an absolutely ridiculous save with his left hand.

Mike, I used to work in Lytham in the early 1990's, and I was told that you would practice for hours at a local football pitch, kicking the ball from one goal to the other. If true, does goal kicking need so much practice?

Hi Mike. Many thanks for your long and loyal service at Molineux.

From your pre-season tours abroad. Any funny moments, or stories to tell?

Mike I would just like this opportunity to say a big thank you.
You were up with the best of the 'goalies' a true professional and a credit to your trade as a keeper.
Sorry about the 'nothing to ask questions' all I remember is you played some blinders, that is the best I can offer you.
Best Wishes and Good Health to you and yours.

Did you ever sing along with " We've got Mickey, Mickey Stowell in our goal, in our goal " when the crowd sang it!

What really happened with Chris Marsden?

What was the reaction of the players to the Brian Law incident and were there any other funny incidents that stand out during your time at the club?

What was it like having Matt Murray as your understudy? Did you have any inkling as to how good a keeper he was going to be (became) & what's your opinion (as a fellow keeper) as to how tragically his career path ended?

Mike, the controversy among Wolves fans with you and Paul Jones always seemed to revolve around the fact that you tended to stay on your line more (being a bit shorter I guess) whereas he was always keen to 'command his box'. Some people have the same issue with Hennessey (who definitely does not have the same reason as you!) as opposed to Ikeme who is more physically dominant. What are your thoughts on the relative merits of our current keepers?

Thanks for all the great memories, they were happy times and although you never made me laugh as much as Mark Kendall (rest his soul) you were always a very solid keeper!
