We'd be up in arms if the Council forced us out to by the M54 never mind us relocating to Telford or the likes. It's the obvious corruption of the whole thing that if they get away with it Millwall will just be the first. It also beggars the question about what real controls are in place to stop the likes of this underhand dealing going on in a modern democracy.

Surely there's some run down dockland area or derelict land that such a fine club could move to?

Considering I live near there pal, it wouldn't take much.

I called you pathetic for calling and hoping for the death of another football club. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'd say the area is the most akin to Wolvehampton if anything. Would agree with brightside that white working class is the majority there.

Irrespective of peoples individual views on this matter why can't people just accept the views of others just because they differ?

For as much as someone doesn't like the reputation of a club due to fans (Hooligans) you wouldn't wish this upon your worst rivals. Football is more than a sport to some people and i can only imagine how the city of Wolverhampton would feel if the golden palace was knocked down.. Signed and hopefully with our support we can help a fellow football league team out.

Not in the budget they could afford I don't think, land prices are insane in London. Property prices are hunger for profit are stripping this country of its soul.

For those slating Millwall fans - our fans don't have a particularly likeable reputation either, close to the top, and pretty much on par with Milwall in the football related arrests figures.

If you care to look at the thread its about a football club but you stick to expensive housing. No surprise there.

I'm hardly "sticking to expensive housing." I mentioned it once in response to a post mentioning property at the Elephant and Castle roundabout. Most of the things I've posted on this thread have been related to Millwall and the land around the Den.

    Because they're insecure.

By arguing the toss over matters they're defending their belief system which they feel is under attack. People who feel secure about what they believe in can listen to others and gauge what they believe against new ideas and perhaps even modify what they believe in the process. They can do this because they don't feel insecure. Those who resort to abuse and violence demonstrate their insecurity.

    Just my opinion. ;)

Land is tight in the area and not at all like you imagine. The price of land is very high and even poor quality houses in the area are also expensive which is often landlord owned and rented; there are a lot of blocks of council flats which are often occupied by Nigerian, BAME and white families.

Millwall were very lucky twenty three years ago to be able to take over the Fisher Athletic (minor league) stadium when they went out of business but the land was owned by the council who now want to develop the area for housing. The area is a bit sprawling but there's absolutely no place for them to move to nearby except for a ground-share at Charlton which fans from neither club would want.

To offer a ground-share is just the sort of thing Duchatalet would do to raise some dosh to line his own pocket so that's exactly why Charlton fans want them to keep their own ground. ;)

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

That's exactly my point about insecurity - they insult someone simply because they have a different opinion and can't accept it.

I don't think any homes are involved as there are no houses nor flats around the Millwall ground unless I'm mistaken.

The council want to build homes for investors to buy as is the current fashion in London and Lewisham in particular. Blocks of flats are being built which is putting pressure on local communities and the infra-structure. Councils see a bag of money and their eyes light up and the detrimental consequences of the so-called planning are overlooked. Schools and the local hospital can't cope with the numbers.

Don't know which figures these 'stats' are taken from, but Millwall have been amongst the worst offenders for well over 40 years alongside Chelsea & West Ham. Wolves (contrary to what many believe) aren't even in the same league.

Millwall could share West Ham's new ground, but it won't happen.

As for being insensitive to people losing their homes - Millwall & Lewisham is actually the first of nine new housing zones in London (New Bermondsey) promoted by the mayor of London - the aim is to rebrand the area, regenerate it & add over 2400 homes & new facilities including a new station.

Ok. Only one name but to me its important I know what I sign before I do it, and i have made my decision.
I understand reasons like football clubs and grounds should not be moved, it can hit us all, and we are all in it together when it really matter.
But there are some strong reasons to not sign, and my feelings have always said "dont sign", so I have decided to.. not sign.

I think that's a bit of scare-mongering propaganda to raise greater sympathy. That whole area around the New Den is a dump.

The local paper tonight refers to the ground, club car park, community scheme building and memorial garden. There's no mention of homes and from my experience of being in the area I can't think of any homes there. In their place they want to build 2,400 homes (which may be part social housing but I'm not sure) and a sports centre.

If you access the link you don't see any homes but there are commercial premises which may or may not be involved but I don't think so.

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Den/@51.4854931,-0.0517489,14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x8e5f85403c5d7f02!8m2!3d51.4855203!4d-0.0516368!6m1!1e1

There are houses in Ilderton Road but they won't be touched as they're on the other side of an arterial road through the area.

Bermondsey and Peckham are hard core Millwall. Lots of council estates, particularly in Bermondsey. One of the few central areas still predominantly working class.

Nobody has said Wolves are as bad as Millwall just that Wolves have had a very active hooligan element for 30 years. Especially considering Operation Growth in the mid-late eighties and the fact we were banned from Millwall in 2003 and Cardiff were banned from Molineux in 2006.

Your second point doesn't really contextualise anything, of the 2400 homes how many will be affordable? Nor do you comment on the shady insider dealing within Lewisham council and the developers. As I've said above, even if you can't abide Millwall the conduct of public officials is outrageous.

I'm a WOLVES fan, not a representative of London Council, The Mayor of London or Lewisham Council. How would i know how many homes are affordable or what is/isn't happening behind the scenes?

Have they actually said that they are buying Millwalls ground?? - All i can see is that they are taking the car park & a social club?

What do we know anyway, the majority of us on here are simple football fans, not councillors or politicians.

My experience of teaching Peckham kids (overwhelmingly BAME) is that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U are the favoured teams with Arsenal being most popular by a long way...and it's much the same in Lewisham where I've done a lot of supply teaching. The two boroughs have a rapidly growing BAME population who don't support local teams. Millwall and Charlton are followed by the white older generation in both areas but their demography is that they're a dwindling population as a result of white folk moving out to Kent.

It seems that it's the land around the club which the council want to purchase but the meeting last night was cancelled for a month to enable further talks.
The club can't survive without the facilities which will be taken from them and now I read today that their category two academy will fold if the proposal goes through.
